A few comments.

1) they were breaking the law by driving in the passing lane. The left lane should have been clear for passing.

2) When you look at the cars behind them. What do you see. ORDER. Do you see people swerving in and out of lanes? Sure at the begining they show a van driving in the breakdown lane to pass, but a) this is illegal and had nothing to do with what they were dong. They didn't tell the driver to break the law. b) if they hade left the passing lane open it would have allowed the van to pass legaly.

I have and do drive 55 and lower on the highway. If the minimum speed limit is 45 guess what. I will use 45 as my low point for coasting.

Did any of you see them get a ticket? Did any of them get in an accident? No. It was people breaking the law that caused the problems.

I've had this happen to me once (thought it was a bunch of kids having fun)... so I just split the lane right between 2 cars. I don't have time for games.

I am actually surprised somebody didn't shoot them.

I think they are luck they didn't get harassed, or followed after the stunt. I wonder what they would have done if they came up on tbaleno going 45? Pulse and glide in unison?

Seems to me there are lots of stretches of interstate that have speed limits that are too low. All of Wisconsin for one.

Had to laugh about this one, around 7 years ago the speed on 36 coming into Boulder from Denver dropped from 65 to 55 as you enter Boulder. Citizens that live along the highway complained to the city about the road noise and requested it be dropped to 45.

State Traffic Engineers were brought in to study it, and RAISED the speed to 65.

Well the good news is that at least it's a state's issue now. It was never right for the feds to make the call, especially when everyone knew it had absolutely no effect (ok 1.5%) on national oil consumption in the first place. The stunt in the video is a good example of why places need to set the speed limit appropriately however. It's just not safe to set it too low, and that video illustrates this, which seems to be their intention to do so. I would guess they only did it for about 2 miles or so; sufficient to get the point across.

Now if we could only say the same about the 21 year old drinking age, and 0.08 drunk driving.

In Colorado we already had more stringent than laws, with 0.05 to 0.099 a DWAI, Driving While Alcohol Impaired, which is equal to 75% the penalty of a full on DUI, driving under the influence.

Colorado also had 3.2 beer for 18-21 year olds, but that wasn't good enough either.

The other thing that isn't shown in this video is the traffic jam that happened a mile down the road. People coming up on slower traffic have to slow down more so than the person in front.... and the chain reaction occurs to the point that some cars have to stop.

If it didnt' show a trafic jam maybe there wasn't one. I like how people will make up problems just because they don't want to believe what others have been telling them for a long time. Driving slow is not a hazzard. Speeding is the hazzard. People passing in the breakdown lane are the hazzard. People blocking the passing lane are the hazzard.

How many accidents happen because someone was speeding vs someone that was going the speed limit. Show me figures proving slow driving causes more accidents.

People love to use lots of excuses to rationalize their bad habits. It just makes them comfortable with the status quo. "I can't do that because...." "Therefore its not my fault..."
