Is that a good price? I got two oil changes worth of Honda oil and 2 filters for around 50 bucks from the dealer. The Honda oil is said to be good for 10k, is the Pennzoil worth more or better somehow?

Well the honda oil is not synthetic, so I would say yes, the pennzoil along with the mobil 1 oil is better. I would also go with a better filter because the honda filters are not what they use to be. The funny thing is, the oil filter that comes orignially with the car is better than what you can get at the dealers now. I go with Mobil 1 oil filters, now they even have an extended version. M110. I have been changing my oil (Mobil 1 0W20) every 10K with a new M110 filter. I have no issues with the car, and the oil comes out pretty "clean" considering the amount of miles.

While I do use Mobil 1 0w-20 I'm not sure if it really is worth the price. In all my other vehicles that I have had they all used regular oil and have never had an issue with the oil or engine. I did change it every 3000 miles and now go for 7500 miles between changes. The only reason I did go to Mobil 1 is the difference in the time I change the oil.kevin

Longevity of dino oil compared to synth? Bah...

'93 GMC -- 5K oil changes for 177K miles. Maybe 3 of the changes were with synth. The rest were dino oil. Mostly AC Delco filters. Used STP a few times. No ill effects observed. Of course, this isn't based on any real research or testing. I don't have any blow-by. No oil consumption. Oil comes out brown when draining. No oil leaks in or around the engine.

'05 HAH -- at 5K, did an oil change with Honda dino oil and Honda filter. Will probably continue with the 5K oil change interval. Maybe with M1 5W-20 and staying with the Honda filters. We'll see...

I pay less per quart with Mobile 1 0W20 than I do with Honda's 0W20, so what extra cost?

I bought 12 quarts of Mobile 1 0W20 at $3.75/quart. I think Honda's 0W20 was at $8.00 / quart. Around there. So for better oil, I pay less, go figure.

Yes they were dumping their inventory but even so, I was still paying less per quart with Mobil 1 0W20 than I could get from Honda.

Around these parts, M1 5W-20 (I haven't seen the 0W-20 yet) will cost around $5.25 on average.

At the Honda dealer, 0W-20 costs $4.79 and 5W-20 costs $2.49. Both are dino.

With my next oil change, I'm thinking of going with the M1 5W-20. I don't know if the improved FE with synth will out weight the additional cost. $11.205 for Honda 5W-20 versus $23.625 for M1 5W-20.

I'd need to save $12.42 over the course of 5K miles. That breaks down to around one cent per 5 miles.

How would I even begin to measure this? Not that it's important. I'm not doing it based on cost. Just curious.

Talking to a Oil rep at the dealership, it doesn't really matter if you use Dino or Synth oil you could even mix them with the new Honda even my Hybrid. You still have to change oil the same intervals. Synth is a little better because the engine doesn't work as hard.
