try it for yourself- go 2 or 3 tanks on premium and make the determination. If your mpg is better, and better enough to offeset the price difference, then use it and ignore what everyone says. If not, then don't use it.
The 20cent difference now is only 7.5%, as opposed to 20cents at 1.50 a gallon- 13%. Its fairly unlikely that premium will give you a 7.5% mpg boost.
In general, if your manual states that 87 is the recommended octane, you will not get an improvement by using premium. But not always.
Premium gas only burns more slowly- (higher octane equivalent content, lower septane/hexane, which ignite at lower temp/pressure) reducing knocking/pinging in older engines that could not sense that and adjust timing automatically. That definitely improved performance and mileage in those engines. It may have more detergent in it too.
In my HAH, no difference. Thus, back to 87 for me.
