Maybe some of you know me by TDIclub or other forums:

My name is Rammstein and I'm a mileage freak.

Here's my last tank, which I finished yesterdayclick on the pictures to get high resolution version)

It equates to 4.147l/100 km or 56.73 US mpg.

I went through the mileage database and found 1 member that got 1524 miles on 1 tank...mmm interesting... <_<

As for what I drive, it's a 1996 Volkswagen Passat variant (that means station wagon in Veedum language) with the TDI 1Z engine.

It has Bilstein TC's, Neuspeed Sport coils, 28mm sway bar, MFA cluster, Bosch 205's, 8.5 litres winshield washer tank, Optima red top battery, Evry mod and aftermarket stereo as upgrades by me.

It comes standard with a 95 litres/25.1 gallons tank and a very efficient engine.

Her name is The Black Variant of Death:

Comments, comparisons?

Welcome Rammstein to the community!
"Sounds" like you have a very nice car

Those are very nice MPG (or LPG) numbers and are doing better than most Hybrids...but not all as you have pointed out.
I've averaged around 57-58MPG tanks for months now in my heavy HCH compared to some of the Insight drivers of 70-90MPG or better.

Looks like basjoos with his Civic CX is just behind you, and I encourage you to enter your car in the database.

Again, welcome and a great accomplishment!

.

Efficient drivers do it better.
1003 miles a tank personal record. 74MPG calculated. HCH1 CVT

Hi Rammstein:

___With a 24.7 gallon fuel tank, you could be knocking on the door of the old French world record of 1,455 miles on a single tank. With another 2 mpg, you are knocking on that guys door … To bad they don’t have a clue as to what real fuel economy driving in and around Chicago is all about

___Welcome to the forums by the way. If you want to discuss fuel economy to its extreme’s, this is about the best place on the net for that activity! As Hot_Georgia_2004 has asked, be sure to post tank over tanks if you have recorded them. It is always a pleasure to add another pilot to the Hypermiler list and you most certainly qualify. Even an override will qualify you as an Honorable mention

___Good Luck

The Black Variant of Death is entered in the database.

Yeap, I do qualify for the Hypermiler list.

According to fueleconomy.gov, I'm supposed to get 5-5.2 litres per 100 (45-47mpg).

In fact, I only get that kind of number during winter!

I do 1 modification a year for mileage purposes.

This year is tranny fluid.

VW puts a "life time" fluid with a weight of 75W90 full synthetic.

I replaced it with Redline MTL 70W80 full synthetic.

Gained 2.8-3.75% fuel economy.

Pretty good if you ask me.

Next year will be tires: going for ultra hard bigger tires.

Then something else (I have a whole list) the year after...

It's a 25.1 gallons fuel tank or 95 litres if you prefer.

Do you have a link from this French guy with the record?

1455 is not so far away...been to 1405...

Rammstein,
That's quite a car you've got there. Great mileage, too. I wonder what the reasoning is for the car to come with such a large fuek tank? Isn't that just extra weight to carry around?

The answer is simple: range.
