After reading about them here, I bought one for my conventional 2000 Explorer. Using the instantaneous and trip mpg readouts, I've been able to bump my mileage up from a stubborn 15-1/2-16 towards 19+ mpg. (Still working on calibrating the fuel consumed readout; this 'before' number is from gas receipts and the 'after' number from the SGII, so not directly comparable...)
Mostly what the SGII has guided me towards is what I like to call 'aggressive coasting.' If the FE improvement numbers pan out, it'll have paid for itself in under five months (I paid list,) and go on to save me $400+ a year. So far what I'm seeing is tank-ranges going up from 240-260 to over 300 for the last two, since I bought it.
The ScanGaugeII is the unit that gets talked about here, but there are a couple others to consider, including one that gives you an overall 'smoothness' score that you can work on improving. At least from the pictures it also looked a little more stylish, but also a bump up more expensive. (The SGII is pretty utilitarian looking.)
