Default Some questions about pulse and glide

I drive the Toyota Camry hybrid and have tried the pulse and glide technique. The Prius has a nifty energy consumption and flow screen. The Camry only has it if you purchase the NAV unit and I have the non-NAV version. This one only has a simplified one that shows a battery, engine and wheels. It has two arrows, one that points from the ICE to the wheels when the ICE is driving them. It has a bidirectional arrow that goes between the battery and wheels, showing the direction of energy transfer between the two.

I accelerate to just above 40 miles per hour, let my foot off the gas and the ICE shuts down. I then try to glide to about 30 miles per hour before doing the same.
  1. If I'm doing the glide portion correctly how far on level roads should I be able to glide before having to accelerate again. I'm guessing that I'm going about 1/4 to 1/2 mile.
  2. I'm able to get it to glide fairly well below 35 miles per hour. However when I first let off the gas at 42 miles per hour the arrow will show regen. I then give it a little gas and the arrow will change direction showing EV mode. This will continue until about 35 miles per hour, no matter how finely I control the gas pedal. I can't seem to get the arrow between battery and wheels to disappear until I'm close to 35 miles per hour. Any suggestions.

On a flat road in no wind (or traffic), put the car in "N" and check your coasting distance. Just use the power poles for reference. Then repeat the experiment trying to feather the accellerator. GOOD LUCK!

Try only going up to 39 miles per hour and then letting off the accelerator and gliding, in the Prius I can only get the glide at 39 or less, it may not be possible in the camry until 35, you might try posting this same question in the TCH forum where people there will be more helpful than I can be.

Chris,

Appreciate the offer. BTW, stopped once in St. Martin while on a cruise. Love that island. We want to go there for a land vacation some time.
