Default "tinted Windows Save Gas"?

A local tint shop with banner display caught my eye and made me laugh:

"TINTED WINDOWS SAVE GAS"

Google returned this link:
http://ezinearticles.com/?Save-on-Ga...int&id=1377773

Has anyone actually seen an increase in MPG after tinting?

The fallacy in this is the assumption that a driver would use the AC less.

I run my air all the time 6 months of the year and assume I would still do so if I had tinting.

If you accept the premise that tint keeps your car cooler, then the AC will work less which will save gas. The question is: "How much?" I don't know, but I doubt it's more than half a MPG and the savings probably changes at different outside temperatures.

I have no idea if window tinting saves on gas mileage, though I've had window tinting on my car since I first bought it.

1997 Ford Contour - This one saved my life in a driver side impact accident
2000 Pontiac Grand Am - I have a bulls eye painted somewhere, this one was rear-ended
2004 Civic Hybrid - My first Honda, My first Hybrid, ran 88,300 miles before the tax rebates came calling

the HCH I came with green tinted windows to help reduce the amount of sunlight getting into the car, to reduce the need of A/C.

I'm not sure if all HCH have this. I believe they do.

and it's worth mentioning that it wouldn't be directly the tinting ITSELF that would be saving gas but the reduced AC usage, which is something different entirely...

I guess it's like the old weather stripping pitch.

Tinting will result in slightly less A/C usage, and it will extend the life of the upholstery.

Another option is to get one of those solar-powered fans that sucks the hot air out of the car.
