Default Hello All!

I'm relatively new to the Hybrid family. We just picked up our 2008 pk#6 Toyota Prius, Silver Green Mica, a few weeks ago.
This car replaced a 1989 Nissan Maxima that went over 140,000 miles. Really liked the car, but it was suffering from steel termites and developing strange electrical problems. Final kicker was when the brake lines rotted and the exhaust needed total replacement. Couldn't see dumping the money into it to do the repair work.
So far, So good with the Prius. We're getting use to starting it and shutting it down, to many years of turning a key has become a habit. I still want to push in the clutch and restart it, when it "stalls" out at a light.
We made a road trip in the Prius over the weekend and managed to get 50.8 MPG! I started laughing at the SUV's and 4x4's that were speeding by.
I look forward to being on this site.

We hope you take advantage of the mileage database. It is a great resource and way to find out what works and doesn't work. Over in the Prius forum, we have a FAQ with lessons learned. We make changes as folks reveal new features or tricks to our cars.

So tell us about your trip? Terrain, distance, payload? Did your passenger like it?

We traveled from Newburgh, NY to Old Saybrook, CT. It's about a 240 mile round trip, mostly highway via Routes 84 and 91. Wouldn't say it's flat as New England roads are hilly at times. Only the wife and myself in the car, nothing in the way of luggage.
My wife enjoyed the ride, (we had headed to a bird store to check it out). Took a bit of fooling with the temperature controls until I got it right and the two of us were comfortable. Navigation system is a bit picky, and provides to much information at times. Took it quite some time to figure out I had changed my choice of highways and didn't want to follow the route it had picked for us. Brought our Tom Tom with us as back up, it's much easier to use while on the go. With time both these very slight problems will work themselves out.
The Prius let us know we were getting 50.8 mpg on the return trip, pretty impressive!
