Default New to Hybrids

I have monitored these forums for a long time and finally bought an 05 Civic. I love it.

I have seen some extremely high mileages posted here for this car. Can someone tell me what special tricks they use. I am still on my first tank and the average so far is just about 35 mpg.

Thanks!

Welcome to GreenHybrid!

xcel would be your best goto guy.

What I can tell you now is get comfortable with your dashboard. Over the next few weeks or even months, it will reveal how fuel is wasted.

I'm a five-year Insight driver, but I thought someone said manual Civics have lean burn. The way to tell is to get up to 60mph on level ground and a light load. The fuel consumption bar should shoot up signifitantly unless maybe the A/C is on. It's about a 50% increase on the Insight.

I would not get too worried about 35mpg just yet. There are two break-in:
  • The car itself
  • The driver learning all the hybrid nuiances

.

61.5mpg lifetime - 82mpg in recent months
