'08 FEH Tranny Problems
Hello all!
I have an 08 FEH with 34k on it now. Love the vehicle even though it doesn't like the cold in Wyoming!
We are having a problem shifting from N to D. Sometimes it won't go into gear without some major muscle!
The dealer replaced the shift box (gear shift box) and I thought that would fix it. Well, it didn't seem to really fix it!
Here are some symptoms and what I have notice:
1. SEems to do it more often when car is warmed up.
2. I thought it only did it when batteries were charging but tonight it wouldn't shift when the IC motor was off!
3. When you are mashing it into gear it surges forward.
4. When it goes in you can feel it clunk and catch!
5. Idle is roughly 800rpm to 1500rpm
All in all it feels like a clutch/shift fork or something isn't working to allow it to go into gear or whatever you call it on a cvt.
Hope to hear from you guys!
Paul

Re: '08 FEH Tranny Problems
This transmission doesn't "shift" mechanically. Software varies the direction of rotation and velocity of the motor generators in combination with the ICE...
Anyhow, the shift lever is pretty much just an electrical switch that tells the computer what you want to do. Your problem sounds like a neutral shift interlock issue, but a dealer should have been able to figure that out.
When it won't shift, try this (as noted in the owner's manual):
To the right of the shifter handle is a small rectangular access cover, approximately 1 cm by 0.75 cm. Remove this cover. Inside is a small intermittent switch. Put your foot on the brake. Use the point of the screwdriver to depress the switch and, with the switch depressed, attempt to shift the vehicle into gear. If the vehicle does shift into gear, take it to the dealer for service; your shift interlock will probably require a fuse or relay replacement. If the vehicle still will not shift, the transmission system may be malfunctioning. Contact your dealer for service.

Re: '08 FEH Tranny Problems
You said the dealer replaced the box, did that include the shifter lever? I'm thinking the release button may have a problem. Also, there is a cable from the shifter lever to the eCVT that could be out of adjustment. Sure, the eCVT is shifted electronically within the eCVT, but the shifter is an assembly with sensors and a cable to the eCVT. If your not getting DTC codes, I'd think something is out of adjustment or damaged in the shifter lever or the cable.
Good Luck, but it sounds like the dealer needs some help from the Ford Hot line.
