Talking 2008 FEH Hitch

Does anybody have experience with an FEH hitch. Do they make one for the 2008 FEH. I want to use a bike rack or a hitch haul when camping with the family. Dealer said FEH cannot haul anything? If they make an aftermarket does it void warranty by installing.

Unless Ford changed rules with the '08 vs the '05-'07; you can tow up to 1000lbs with an FEH. Check your owners manual--many dealers are known for spewing misinformation about the FEH.

As far as a hitch, if you search the threads..there are few hitches that fit the FEH with its unique coolant lines in the back. I installed a hidden hitch on my '05--not sure if any fit the '08.

As far as warranty...as long as you follow the owners manual...there should be no reason Ford can legally void your warranty(even if you use aftermarket parts).

As far as towing...there are a few of us that use an FEH to tow small trailers without any issues.

Nate

Hidden Hitch lists the 2008 FEH as the same part as earlier hybrids. I have one (from www.etrailer.com) but I haven't installed it yet. 2008 continues to list 1000 lbs as towing limit. I would guess this is based on transmission design.

My dealer installed a hitch on my 08 FEH at my request. At first I was surprised it was not Ford make, but when I read the 08 Escape accessories guide, the hitch was listed as not available for the hybrid. I think mine is Valley brand.

I installed a Hidden Hitch Class III on my 2008 FEH. Took maybe an hour, less if you knew what you were doing beforehand... I got it off ETrailer.com. I've also got the parts to do up the wiring, but I haven't installed that part yet.

Did you get a modulite? Without it there is some risk that your trailer will convince the car it has bad tailights and it might even interfer with proper operation... there is another thread on that. At least this was true in earlier years.

Did get a Modulite, also not installed yet. That thread was very helpful for me - so that I (hopefully) got all the right wiring!

Did you have to cut the plastic with the Hidden hitch? I'm trying to find one that drops down below so I don't have to test my dremmel skills.

Didn't have to cut ANYTHING. Just pop the muffler mounts off, bolt the hitch up, and pop the muffler back on.
