Default 2009 Quote at a Big Premium

My wife and I visited a Georgia Ford dealer yesterday to order a 2009 FEH. I was trying to order the 4WD LMTD with the nav and step bar. The MSRP for the 4WD LMTD was as reported here earlier 32385. The 3 gallons of gas and prep fees added 1064.84. The nav added 2395 and the step bar added 345. So we are at a total of 35820. I asked to see the final cost figure including tag fees, registration and sales tax. I was expecting all of that to add about 6% and get me to just under 38K. After a short delay the figure came back 42834.07. That's 20% over MSRP. I hesitated and was told I needed to make the deal because this dealer only had nine left. I believe others have reported a first shipment allotment of 10 to each large dealer. What a shock. We have waited for years to make this decission and I was prepared to sign for the $38,000 and it looks like $5000 has been added. I would greatly appreciate any other factual deals. Has anyone been able to order at MSRP plus sales tax? By the way, I was told there is no X-plan for hybrids.

Ordered an 09 2wd limited with all available options(leather roof wheels etc) (much less options this year). This includes nav2395,running boards345.
Sticker was 34070.
I ordered my 08 from the same dealer,
They sold the ordered 2009 to me for 33070.00 (purchase agreement)
Only fees were
$1.50 florida battery fee (12v)
$5.00 florida waste tire fee
$389 admin fee
2.00 lemon law fee

I had the same fees when I bought my 08, which was
31160- every available option (nav too)
1000 ford cash back
500 back - bring your own financing
battery, tire, admin, lemon law all the same...

Hope this info helps.

PS my 08 is for sale in the market place as I wait for the 09!

Sean

I bought my 2008 with xplan but you have to find a dealer who will let you use it. I don't understand how the federal govt gives incentives to buy hybrids and then the dealers are allowed to turn around and steal those incentives by jacking up the price. This is total F&#&ing BS...............
Somebody needs to put a stop to this.................

We'll probably see a lot of this. Dealers can charge whatever the market will bear. Some will try to milk the situation for every cent they can. I think you just have to think carefully whether you want to do business with that type of dealer. When I bought my FEH, the dealer apologized for charging list price but it was the only one available in the state and he had 5 people waiting to see it after me.

I just ordered my 09 Hybrid Limited 2WD last night with the same pricing as you. The only variant I will have on my revised paperwork today is the removal of the side steps as I do not want those on my order (I initially thought I wanted them but changed my mind). There was no hesitancy whatsoever by my dealer to accept the X-Plan.

I am in Louisville, KY. Final x-Plan price with my name associated with it is $31408 for FWD Hybrid Limited with Nav. I ordered the new Brilliant Silver Metallic Clearcoat and it will be one of only 13 allocated for our area.

The sad thing is, the price of everything is going up, as the value of a U.S. dollar is going down.

Brand-new Honda Insights were $20,000.

Now, some 6, 7, and 8 year old used Insights are selling for $15-$18,000.
I was very lucky to get an 8 year old used one for $12,800 right before gas price passed $3. As gas prices go up, Hybrids become more attractive, and their price goes up.

I would not pay $38,000 for a FEH, and I love the car and promote it every chance I get.
I would not pay more than $35,000 for one tricked out with every option. Shop around, and look in other states. Is it worth a road trip to save $5k?

.

Gasabout $0.05/mi
Gasabout $0.09/mi
E85about $0.09/mi

Also consider that the loaded 08 was 31160 retail and the 09 is 34070 retail.

Less than 3k difference for Roll stability, Sync, a more powerful ice, slightly better mpg, steering wheel audio controls and bright wheels is actually very reasonable in my book.

Now buy xplan or have the dealer knock 1k off the sticker price on a vehicle that is hot right now?

Who is complaining?

I paid 31K (Including sales tax) for a FWD Mariner Hybrid. Every Option...except AWD...2008.

The gas savings is great, but withouth the 3K tax credit...it wouldnt have been enough to justify it.

Just setup a spreedsheet that calculates the difference in gas savings at $5 per gallon @ 18 mpg, and 37 MPG (My average after hitting 10k miles).

This way you can calculate the difference in savings.
