2010 FEH air filter questions:

Mine's an '08. But my work has a '10 one as a pool car. I volunteered to get the air filters and change them out.

I used a couple of part finders and finally bought from Amazon. They were showing the same Wix filters (49187 and 42793) that I put in the '08. So I just assumed that they'd work. Lo and behold, neither fits.

First question- does the '10 have a battery air filter? It looks like it's just recirculating air in the cargo area. Am I missing a panel to get to the filter? Is there another (cabin?) filter to get instead?

Second question- the engine air filter in the manual is a Motorcraft FA-1772. What are comparable numbers from Wix et al?

Thanks!

TimK, Thanks for the filter info. I just purchased a 2007 FEH 4WD three weeks ago. Got a new air filter for the ICE and the HV battery. Going for an oil change this week. I've been a FRAM Filter guy for a long time. Any idea what part # FRAM has for the FEH oil filter? Again, thanks for the nice post of part #'s and images.

This thread now contains a guide on how to replace the rear traction battery duct filter with a lifetime K&N filter.

Just received five Motorcraft filters (fuel, air, oil, HV battery, cabin air) from Rock Auto for $55 delivered by Fedex.

I know some people have had a hard time finding a socket that fits the oil filter cap nicely and I just wanted to say that I took a chance on the LISLE 54760 76mm/14 flute socket and it worked very well and fit tightly. I got mine from Rock Auto.

I have found that the head of oil filter cap drain plug (2006 FEH) has rounded out with use. (I change my oil/filter at 50% life remaining.)

The Ford part number for the oil cap assembly (the drain plug is not available separately) is 1S7Z6A832BA and costs approximately $40.

There is a Dorman (Chinese made aftermarket) part number 917-004 available for around $12. There are repeated references to poor quality control issues in the Amazon reviews (mentioned in 6 out of the 14 current reviews) and I decided not to go that route.

Mazda part number LF01 14 320 A9U cross references to both part numbers above and sells for approximately $16. It's the same part as the Ford one and it has to be better than the Dorman, so this seems like the best choice.

The Mazda Tribute part number is ec0150819a. They are identical...I have used them and, as usual, they are much cheaper than the Ford part....less than $1 each.

I have a 2010 FEH and cannot find where the battery air filter goes. Does it even have one? Any help I could find on YouTube or google showed what I assume are earlier models with a removable side panel in the cargo area that I do not have.

For future reference:

https://www.fordservicecontent.com/F.../10hevog2e.pdf

In 2010 they removed the rear air that cooled the battery when outside air intake was too warm. Since it no longer pulls from outside air, and it pulls from presumably filtered cabin air, they removed it.

Page 7:
"The high voltage battery is cooled by cabin air drawn from vent holes in the driver-side cargo trim panel. Avoid placing objects over the vent holes which block air flow to the high voltage battery."

Page 300:
"Low and high voltage battery – storage Your vehicle must be started and run for a minimum of 10 minutes once a month in order to maintain the high voltage battery charge. This will maintain the high voltage battery but it is not enough to maintain the low voltage (underhood) battery and additional low voltage (underhood) battery charging may be required after 60 days. If your vehicle is to be stored for 30 days or longer, the low voltage (underhood) battery negative terminal must be disconnected. Failure to do this could damage your vehicle’s batteries"

Just for reference in this thread, when I changed the oil on my 2010 FEH with ~57k miles recently, I used Mobil 1 Extended Performance 5w20 and a Mobil 1 filter, the M1-102A Extended Performance. This is the spin-on type filter for the 2010 model, not the cartridge type. It requires the 76 millimeter, 14 flat cup, but I bought an el-cheapo "spider type" oil filter wrench with the three arms that tighten around the filter at Walmart and it worked fine.

I've used Mobil 1 oil and filters on all my cars for decades and have never had a problem related to oil in close to 1,000,000 miles of driving, so I didn't see any reason to switch. Apparently the car had been using Pennzoil prior to this, according to the oil service sticker on the windshield. The filter that came out was a Motorcraft FL910S.
