Default garage door mystery

OK, here's one I haven't found by doing a search of the posts.... We got our FEH about two weeks ago. Completely love it, etc. We live on an alley and have a detached garage with an electric door operated by a numeric keypad on the doorframe. In the warm months (both of them -- this is Minneapolis, after all ) neither of our cars lives in the garage. We park one car on the alley apron and the other on the street -- and since the FEH is the new car, it gets the prized alley apron spot.

When I turned in from the alley last night, I noticed that the garage door was going up and down, and it stopped halfway up. Nothing was blocking the electric eyes, and I couldn't figure out what was going on, but I managed to get the door down and decided I'd try to find and fix the problem over the weekend.

This afternoon, the same thing happened -- as I rounded the corner, the door started opening and closing wildly. So I left my son in charge of watching the door while I moved the FEH to the street. Miraculously, the chaos stopped as soon as the car was out of there! When I walked back to the garage, it was working just fine.

The mystery: What is it abut my FEH that drives the garage door insane? Why did the problem just emerge yesterday -- after almost two weeks of close contact between the door and the car? And --most important -- what can I do about it? Not sure how easy it would be to find an exorcist in these parts, but I'd be willing to give it a try!

All ideas welcome.

Thanks,
Liz

Have you ruled out coincidence, or a child or neighbor playing a prank?

Does your Escape have the homelink system, where the garage door opener is built into the visor or rear-view mirror? What Make / Model garage door opener do you have, and how new or old is it?

You thought this was a simple question with a simple answer, didn't you!

<levity>
Make sure no one in a neighboring house is flipping "The Mystery Light Switch" off and on repeatedly... (a la the commercial currently on television for something... auto insurance, maybe?)

Wish I could postulate a cause. Good luck with that!

Perhaps it is the garage door opener that you had on the sun visor that has fallen down to the floor under the mat or between the seats and is being constantly depressed. Don't worry too much as the battery will eventually wear out in a week or so

...I think it is a Ford curse!@ I had a Ford Ranger that would occasionally stroke the windshield wipers at random. from new to 100K miles and no one ever found a problem to fix.

Maybe you should contact Stephen King!

Is your garage door opener old, or a newer code hopping type?

That's funny - I had an Explorer that did the exact same thing !! They must have installed the same gremlin as standard equipment for both of those

It was irritating at first, but just learned to ignore it after a while.

If it turns out the FEH is really triggering the garage dor opener, try this:

Disconect the wire that goes between the inside door button and the opener. Disconnect it at the opener receiver. On older models, the receiver is a separate part between the button and the opener. On newer openers, it is built into the opener. If this cures the problem, the wire is acting as an antenna receiving impulses from electronics on board the FEH.

Or it could just be a short in the wire going to your button inside the garage.

Transmitter from one of the tires possibly? Doesn't the TPMS work using RF transmitters in the wheels?
