Default how much did you pay?

Hello folks,

I am a writer who's done a fair amount of reporting on vehicles, trends and motorsports. I'm looking at the Ford hybrid now and would appreciate input from regular consumers willing to provide the unvarnished truth.

How was the dealership experience and how much are dealers asking for the hybrid Escape? (and how much did you pay?)

If you have any questions, and/or would be willing to go on record with your name and town/city, and would like to contact me directly, pls. email me at tunernews@yahoo.com

I stumbled across greenhybrid. Jason, you've done a fine job and I admire your pluckiness! (and Jason wisely suggested I post here.)

Thanks,
Jeff

Jeff,

In the Portland Oregon area most dealers are trying to ask for a premium over MSRP on the Escape Hybrid. However if the forddirect.com database is to be believed, a number of them have multiple vehicles sitting on the lot, so that may change in the near future. We did end up paying a bit over sticker for our Escape but not as much as they were asking.

Default $500 off

I managed to get mine for $500 less than MSRP. The dealership was having a President's Day Sale where they were taking $500 off everything. This was in the Worcester, Massachusetts area.

To find the one I wanted, I used forddirect.com. For our area, the database was accurate.

Good luck in your search!

Post Paid Invoice

I paid invoice for my Escape Hybrid in early Feb. I understand this is outside the norm, but the rural dealer I bought from had 5 and they weren't moving the way the sales manager wanted. I had called a month and a half earlier and told the dealer when they were serious about selling (i.e. invoice), I was serious about buying.

My hybrid is on the stripped side 4wd, but cloth int, no nav system, etc. I guess this is not a desireable configuration which helped me out on the price discussion.

FYI, Washington DC dealers (closer to home) wanted $2-7k above MSRP. I told them where they could stick it, but I guess they are finding enough people to pay that because there are still markups to date.

I've you're somewhere near the East Coast....the dealer I bought from still has 3 left!

Default our price

Escape FWD - nothing fancy, just the slide cover in the back and the 110 volt plug as "extras" for under 28. Dealer had 2 FWD and 1 AWD on lot - claims that 7 out of 10 vehicles are sold to out of staters. One of the 2 FWD's had a dealer cost of $2,995 over the other (identical other than color) We got that particular vehicle but without the extra 3K.

In checking around, 2 other dealerships within 10 miles did not have Escape Hybrids and would put us on their "waiting list" or contact their sister shop 30 miles away. (Coastal Maine)

FYI - while traveling last week of Feb found a dealer in Annapolis MD area with several in stock.

Default Ebay.

I went on Ebay, found a dealer in NY that was selling them. Bought my 4wd fully-loaded for MSRP. Then paid a few hundred bucks for a trucking company to ship to out here to Berkeley.

Even being 3000 miles away, the dealership has been great about following up and checking in to make sure things are fine.

Jeff - Welcome.
I paid MSRP and ordered in Sept. 04 with delivery of vehicle about #3000 in November. There was never a doubt about paying more and I made no deposit until I picked it up. Currently we are approaching 7,000 miles and I am close to coaxing nearly 35 MPG on a tank.

My email is listed if you want to chat. I am happy to be quoted but you might get a more rounded experience by posting as many questions as possible on this forum. My vehicle and my mileage apparently is not the norm.

Mike

Talking A plan

My sister works for Ford so I got the A-Plan price on my FEH FWD fully loaded. I think that the A-plan price is the same no matter which dealer you buy from. I don't think (but not sure on this) that they can give an inflated price.

That's fascinating. I was told by the dealer that FEH didn't qualify for X-plan which I'm told has the same guidelines as A-plan...
