I just bought a 05 Mercury Sable CAF. It will work IF you build a bracket out of wood or something to seal the front and left side of the CAF and install it upside down. The front seal will need to be a triangle. The left seal is a simple ~3/4" square stock about 4" long. I will do some measuring, this could be a more economical setup once the seals are fabricated because you can purchase these filters at NAPA and other parts stores. I will post the dimensions later.

Simple solution! I got some 2" foam from a craft supply, don't need much. One piece about 4" X 2" X 1.5" another about 10.5" X 2" with one side tapered starting from about 5.5" tapering to about 3/4" at the end. (kinda self explanitory) Cut with a sharp utility razor. Install Sable filter upside down, stuff foam in to seal. I dont think you will have to glue it in place. I bought some velcro stickies just in case that way it can be removed to service the filter.

Works like a champ! There is a small reduction in air flow when you select OUTSIDE air, but there is no change in the recirculate mode (because it doesn't go through the CAF).
Napa cabin air filter part # 4773 fits 05 Mercury Sable.

Stopped by my friendly Ford dealer and talked to my parts guy. He showed me a picture of the 8L8Z-19N619-B cabin air filter and it is the one the 07's and 08's will need. It should drop right in and seal with no other mods. He thinks that they are for the 08's and since they are so new that they have not begun to ship the service parts.

As I suspected, this is the response I got from FordParts.com

Mark,

The part you have listed is for a 2008 model and is not yet available.

Thanks, Ken

I think 08 and 07 are the same format. I have an 08 FEH and did my own this weekend. It is a weird shape, like a trapezoid. I got some furnace filter material on a roll, about an inch thick, and cut it to shape roughly and had it folded over, so I have about 2 inch thick of filter.

Has anyone actually received/installed a 8L8Z-19N619-B/FP-66 in an '07-'08?
