That is exactly what I ended up doing... that was the trip to Radio Shack.
It solved my problem by completely disconnecting the Bluetooth kit's Mute control from the Nav radio whenever power is off.
But you are right. It was poor design by the Bluetooth kit designers.

Well, the "Accessory Enable" is really simply switched 12v power, and that's the power that is maintained 'on' after the vehicle is turned 'off', and until the driver's door is opened. Lots of things are powered off of that, including the windows and the sun roof. I doubt that the adding the Bluetooth kit to it, will effect anything. Matter of fact, I actually "tapped" into it, at the sun roof fuse since I don't have a sun roof. I figured that there was a circuit designed to supply up to 20 amps, but wasn't being used.
As I mentioned, the real oddity is that apparently grounding the Mute input on the Nav radio not only enables the Phone audio inputs, but also will force the Nav radio 'on' even if the vehicle is 'off' (key removed from ignition, driver's door opened, etc). I never expected that to happen.

Correct! The reason I was giving a warning here was that I had a friend that wired a trailer light controller that needed a constant on and an ignition source for the +12. He used the retained accessory line for the ignition source. He later had a problem with his trailer lights that damaged his controller and caused a feedback of power from the battery to the retained accessory line this caused his accessories to stay on until his battery died. So not knowing your hands free kit but knowing that there are other design problems with it......
To be safe I'd put a low amperage fuse (just higher then the hands free kits rating) in line with the constant power source it will protect your battery and vehicle if you do get a power feed back to the accessory enable. This should already be done in the hands free kit but unless you see an inline fuse holder you might want to add it

Re: Nav System & Bluetooth
Would this ever be a desirable feature? Such as wanted to make / receive a phone call with the key out of the ignition? I'm not trying to wire mine, so I'm just asking out of curiosity.

Yes.

Re: Nav System & Bluetooth
Hey folks, how about the '08? I thought I noticed the Bluetooth emblem on my phone come on one day, but I can't figure out anything about how it might work. Thanks for any info.

Re: Nav System & Bluetooth
any new info about the 08?
I'm looking to buy one and I'm picking my options and can't believe there's no bluetooth option from the factory.
My wife's car came with it and I'm hooked. So even if I have to add something aftermarket I will...

The FE/MM aren't being offered the Microsoft Sync option (which includes Bluetooth). At least not yet.
That makes the FE/MM the only two new models, with this particular Nav system, that is not being offered the Sync. Hopefully, Ford will correct that, and offer it as an upgrade.

Re: Nav System & Bluetooth
for those that missed it- I saw this discussing the NAV unit being the same as for Lincoln.
