Well that didn't last long. This time when the mic died I could smell that all too familiar smell of electronics burning up.
Sure enough the mic is dead again. I used one of the connectors from the first unit that died and spliced it onto the rear view mirror wires so that I can easily plug it back in and keep using my sync.
Should hear back from the dealership soon, they were emailing Ford to report this. Part is less than 12 months old so I expect they will give me another one.
Well, it's dead again. No burning smell this time, just stopped working one day. Will try the dealership again, but I wonder if anyone knows about connecting a different style of omni-directional microphone. Or perhaps a part number for a newer mic that Ford used in a different vehicle.
