It really doesn't go by date, yet the date is a good guideline.

Is your VIN lower or higher than 6C002303?

I guess higher then.

The last 6 digits of my VIN are 800271.

Does that mean my car is the 800 271 car or the 271 car or neither?

Thanks

Finally! I have my HAH scheduled to be updated next Thursday. I am really curious to see what the effect on fuel economy will be.

I got my software update Friday morning (8/18/06) , and when I got home, ironically, my recall letter was waiting for me in my mailbox. Since Friday, I have driven about 200 miles, and have noticed maybe 2 MPG improvement in mileage. Not a whole lot. What I have noticed, is that my car now coasts more -- before the update, practically every time I let off the gas, the battery would charge. Now, it is often simply coasting when I let off the gas instead of charging the battery. I have not noticed any decrease in battery power. Other than that, I have not noticed any change in the functioning of the car. Has anyone else noticed any changes?

Thanks everyone for posting your results after the firmware update. While I do have an '05 model hah, it does fall within the VIN# range.

Like everyone else, I could appreciate up to a 2 mile increase in MPGs.

Has anyone with an 05 looked further into this?

I plan on checking with the local dealer to see what they have to say however, gathering some information here could really assist me with my meeting with them.

TIA,

Tony

Because you have an '05, it automatically DOES NOT fall into the VIN range. The VIN range is actually the whole 17 digit number; it was only shortened to the last few numbers above to save space... So even though your last few numbers may have matched up, the first few automatically eliminates you.

From the sounds of things, the firmware update may only bring the data values up to the specs of the '05. So in essence, the '05 may BE the update. However, one member reported the car coasting more often when letting up on the throttle, instead of recharging. So the '05 would benefit from this 'adjustment' as well. Who knows. Perhaps us '05 owners need to pester Honda about it and see if they come up with an update for us too.

Maybe I'm mistaken, but I was under the impression that the reason for the difference in fuel economy figures between the 05 and 06 HAH was a change in testing procedure. However, Honda is reporting the fuel economy for the 07 HAH as 28/35 up from 25/34 for the 06. My suspicion is that the software update improves the pre-April 06 up to the fuel economy now reported for the 07.

I don't know for sure. I thought the FE testing procedure was the same. Just the PCM/ECM(?) software was adjusted from 2005 to 2006. But the current update was supposed to revert back to the 2005 values? I could be way off on this. If fact, I hope I'm way off on this. It would be nice to see a 2 mpg improvement in my current FE.

However, the thing that I did hear which changed in their testing procedure was in how they rated horsepower. The 2006 is supposed to be the same horsepower as the 2005. But the 2006 is rated at 253 hp whereas the 2005 is rated at 255 hp. Mechanically, there's no difference between both years, just that the SAE testing procedures changed.

OK

I now have the update. Not much improvement in mileage. The last tank prior to the update was 28.2. The tank after the update is 30.2. Let me say that we don't drive regular routes. We live in the Sierra foothills near Auburn. We drove from Reno over the Sierra to Auburn prior to the update and got 40 mpg. Today we drove along the shore of Tahoe, over a couple of grades and up the old U.S. 40 over Doner Summit to Auburn and got 49 mpg. I noticed that the car is generating and using the battery more at lower speeds thus improving the under 40 mph driving mileage. The 65 plus miles per gallon remains about the same. What I like about the car is the way it holds speed going down hill in cruise control. It is doing that now by down shifting more when the battery is full. On slight upgrades the car is assisted by the electric motor more and staying in ECO longer. Prior to the upgrade our over all mpg was 30.2. I let you all know how we are doing as we drive more.

J
