I don't know about netting. I don't know what the rain gutter stuff is, but if it's anything like the stuff in screen doors, I wouldn't trust it to keep out anything with high velocity impacts. But, you can always go down to a Lowe's or Home Depot and buy the metal screens and have them cut down to the right size. Many motorcycling people I know have done that to protect their bike radiators.
