It is easy enough to reproduce:

1. This is the original message list.<<<<<
2. This is the first edit, added line. The above line had not been changed.<<<<
3. This is the second edit, added line. The above lines have not been changed.<<<
4. This is the third and last edit added line. No change to the above lines.<<
5. Opps, one last edit to point out the extra blank lines inserted too.<
6. Opps again, fixed one misspelling.

Now I will edit the above list and add a line each time.

You may notice each edit adds a "<" to the end of a list element. It happens for both numbered and bulleted lists. I've been amused by it for some time.
