Default Added an 07 HiHy to go with the 06 Prius

Just wanted to report that I have purchased a 2007 HiHy 2WD LTD w/navi and a 3rd row seat. It was supposed to replace the 05 Corolla I was driving. This however has not occurred. My wife who was driving our 2006 Prius #8, decided she just "liked the new one soooo much". Makes sense really as I drive about 1oo miles a day for work and she drives about 10. She was getting 45 miles per/gal in the Prius and I now get 55. She has averaged 29 in the HiHy only because she is trying real hard. I used to get about 33 in my Corolla sooo... Add it up- we were at 45 and 33 =78 divided by 2 for an average of 39. Now we are at 55 and 29=84 divided by 2 for an average of 42. Also I get to drive solo in the carpool lane now which saves me about an hour a day. All in all, it's been a sweet deal for us- if only I got to drive that 268 horse powered beast once in a while. It's nice but I love my Prius!! Lastly, I will claim the $3150 tax credit for the Prius and my wife will take the $2600 for the HiHy. Just wondering if we can still file jointly and take two hybrid tax creds? Does anybody know? Thanks

The Secretary of the Treasury has yet to issue guidance regarding the credit. Currently, it seems that you could take the credit on Form 8910 for both, BUT... I wouldn't spend the money until I had the check in hand. There is still time left for the IRS to adjust the rules.

I read on the internet that the credit is subject to AMT. Is that true? Without the credit, I would not have bought it.

Yes. The taxpayer is subject to minimum tax.
I must reiterate the party line, don't rely on any tax information that is not from a professional who knows your particular situation.

Sorry to say, I did not fair as well as I did on my 6 Prius (stole that one!). Because of the upcoming tax credit cutoff (Sept 30) and because the wife wanted the 3rd row, my leverage was very limited. The one we got was the only 2wd limited with navi + 3rd row I could find in So Cal. Paid 37K + tax and lic. I had wanted the HiHy since I first saw and drove one over a year ago. I never buy a first year run though (Even if it is a Toyota). This one seems smoother than the 06 for some reason. It could just be me though because I know Toyota did not make any announced changes between the 06 and 07. It is in any case a work of art. We are currently having running boards installed for the wife and 4 year old. Also a backup camera (Real easy install with the factory nav) and are thinking about a rear seat entertainment (They make a roof-mounted detachable DVD player). I highly recomend the HiHy (And this is from a die hard Prius owner), it's like a bigger, more solid, slighly less sophisticated brother of the Prius. Good luck

$40,281.00 I wanted to pay around 36K+tax and lic. It is worth the 37 though. So solid feeling. Purposely did not get the 4wd because I didn't want to be tempted to do something the vehicle is not designed for (like take it on the sand).

I haven't needed 4wd yet and I do have a 4wd truck but the amazing thing i noticed is the hilghander rides like a lexus (formerly a cadillac) compared to our rav-4 especialy on HWY trips....Good choice!!!
