I wonder if it might be the EV mode button that is reportedly disabled in US vehicles, but provides ~ 1 mile of EV only travel for European and Asian models. Here's a link that shows one of these buttons in a Prius, if you scroll down the page.

No red button on my Limited. Sounds like some sort of after market item based on the description of the button.

perhaps the other guy was right

there was some dealer upgrades. I still dont understand the 'red button'. Maybe when you push it , a commerical for the dealership comes up on your nav screen.

cheers

...meanwhile thousands of miles away, a counter adds one each time it's pressed.

how about going to the likely source- the dealer's service dept. Ask them what it is, or at least to look up the VIN for what was done to it and/or trace out the wiring.

I drive an 05 FEH 4wd, my wife's mother bought two 2006 HiHys for her company. Both vehicles are equipped with the 4WDi system. In her HiHy, there is a black button located where you are referring to that when presses allows the third row seat occupants to control the rear heat/AC unit. When this button is not pressed, the unit is controlled by the heater controls on the dash.

The rear controls for this unit can be found on the right side of the third row seats. I looks like it is on the "hump" for the rear tire.

Does this help?

Rich
