Sport Utility Vehicles Have a New Enemy - BanSUVs.com Targets the Source of
Pollution and Safety Concerns
__________________________________________________ _________________
Sacramento, CA August 9, 2005 -- Some cities have been toying with the idea of
banning larger Sport Utility Vehicles, and according to BanSUVs.com, rightly
so! This new web site is designed to help spread the word about SUV-related
environmental and safety issues.
Throughout the United States, Sport Utility Vehicles are rapidly becoming more
and more popular as symbols of status and wealth. Because of this, acknowledges
BanSUVs.com, accidents and pollution are on the rise.
Various cities around the U.S., and in other countries, are in the planning
stages of a ban on Sport Utility Vehicles. In fact, if you live in California
and drive a larger SUV, you may be breaking the law already due to weight
limits on certain roads. Some locales are also attempting to fight the gross
pollution caused by SUVs.
If you would like more information regarding recent attempts at banning SUVs,
please visit http://www.BanSUVs.com. You can also help support the cause and
spread the word by purchasing exclusive merchandise from their web site.
About BanSUVs.com:
BanSUVs.com exists to help raise awareness regarding the safety concerns and
environmental dangers of large Sport Utility Vehicles.

Re: BanSUVs.com Targets the Source of Pollution and Safety Concerns
This isn't suprising, in europe cities are contemplating banning ICE's completely. There should be a huge tax/insurance type thing for SUV's, that's for sure and the $15,000 tax return for heavy SUV's has GOT to go. It will be hard to ban them completely, especially with the wide range of SUV sizes and fuel consumption, but I suppose you can focus on the weight and FE to narrow it down. Enforcing such a 'ban' would be difficult, to say the least, and what about trucks? They are almost as bad, or worse because they can't even hold as many people usually, even though most are driven with just one person. I guess they just fall into the same category.

Re: BanSUVs.com Targets the Source of Pollution and Safety Concerns
Hi Guys:
___Whooa, hold on here … Does the Acura MDX non-hybrid SUV with a ULEV-II emissions rating deserve to be banned when I receive > 30 mpg in her out on the highway? The last time I took her into downtown Chicago, I nailed a 27 mpg segment on the way home in it over 3 hours of crawling all 41 miles. I think all Dodge Neon’s should be banned because there emissions are worse and the guy driving it doesn’t get as high as FE as I do? Ban all Minivans for the same reason! All Full Sizes P/U trucks should be banned! Why not all vehicles that are not Tier II/Bin 4 rated or achieve at least 30 + mpg in real life per a future OBD-III diagnostics HW via wireless com’s? Ban them I say, as they don’t belong on my road! Only Prius II’s, HCH’s, and Insight’s should be allowed on the roadway! Ban everything else!
___The above was all in jest … I hope some saw the humor in it
___Good Luck

To ban SUVs in Dallas, you would have to call out the National Guard, and they would bring.....Humvees! {sigh}
Rising cost of operation will be the most effective ban

I do have to say this, try hauling 2 dogs their crates, luggage, flyball gear and two humans in a freaking Prius or HCH. I still like my SUV for things like that and I will still use one.Kevin

Noted - SUVs have their place for such uses. I just see so many empty ones....

Very true and there are times when just one of us use it but I am trying to reduce that. Using the HCH more for doing the runs to the stores.Kevin

Re: BanSUVs.com Targets the Source of Pollution and Safety Concerns
All I can say is, "you won't find me sporting a 'Ban SUVs' sticker on my HCH!" It's bad enough that I get honked at for going the speed limit here in Austin, Texas... I think just having the "Hybrid Gasoline/Electric" badge on the back of the car pisses some people off for some reason. Telling them I'd like them to see their cars banned would likely get me shot!

I live in the Houston area known for massive amounts of "bubbas" and have never had a problem with people honking or giving me a "salute".Kevin
