Default D'Oh!

“The crucial factor was the unforeseeable shift in demand to smaller, more fuel-efficient vehicles which was triggered by increased gas prices in the U.S.,” Zetsche said. He noted that Chrysler’s strengths have been minivans, pickups and sport utility vehicles, autos not known for their fuel efficiency.

The above was a quote from Dr. Zetsche, head of Daimler-Chrysler. http://www.msnbc.msn.com/id/17944679/

How dumb can you get? Unforseeable shift in demand to smaller vehicles?

Anyone ever hear of the management strategy called "plan B?" That's where you foresee possible scenarios (like higher fuel prices/reactions to global warming) and have a "plan B."

Sheesh, and they pay that guy how much a year for that kind of stupidity?

Probably more money than we can ever make in 10 lifetimes.....

At some point in time, all of this madness will come crashing down and some start-up auto mfg that specializes in only small FE vehicles at low cost will rise from the ashes.

I think the unforeseeable shift was to other manufacturers' (Toyota, Honda etc.) minivans, pickups & SUVs.
The Toyota Tundra has abysmal MPG just like the Dodge Ram and yet it's sales are up 12%.
Hmmm...
The truth is that the quality of the smaller FE vehicles is better from the other manufacturers. It is only logical that a shift to FE vehicles would decrease the sales of the Big 3.

Absolutely.

Especially in light of the fact that none of the Big 3 have made any real attempt at providing fuel-efficient, quality vehicles.

A big D'Oh! to the Big 3!
