A quicker way to stop the plane would be with a couple of vehicle-mounted SAMs. A bit more messy for sure, but standard brakes would work just fine. No need for the big pickup.

Try to stop a plane with your Ford exploder with 6# test fishing line hooked to the spark plugs.OOOps they would all fall out.
