This is a headline from a local news source. Evidently some folks are selling their stuff at pawn shops in order to afford gas.

I wonder how many of the "Pawnies" put any thought into ways they could save gas? I'm betting that the same folks who are pawing stuff to buy gas wouldn't think anything of making an extra trip to the store if they ran of of cigarettes. When is the lightbulb going to light up?

I saw a driver yesterday in a Chevy "Subdivision" (suburban) pulling up to a bank of america looking for a home equity loan.......with a 25 gal tank and 10-mpg that would cost me $75 clams a week or $300/month...just to drive around town.....then add the $400/month lease.....$150/month insurance......and you're looking at $850/month.......a second mortgage.....

I have an acquaintance, a divorced mother of three small children. The husband is your classic deadbeat husband, which pays alimony every blue moon or so. Therefore, she is always cash strapped.

She had a 2005 Honda Civic MT (non-hybrid) in very good shape. She figured out that she had some equity there and decided to trade it for something older, and get some cash flow in the process. So what did she trade it for??? Grab your seat....for a 1991 Chevy Suburban!!

Kelly Blue Book puts that 1991 honey of a vehicle at $4000 in excellent condx so you know what the trade-in value of a 15yr old beater with 100K miles that no one wants is....probably $200-$500.....a real good investment.

I sometimes joke with her....she traded a 30+ MPG vehicle for a 100 MPG vehicle....... but 100 MPG of oil.

That darn thing consumes so much oil that sometimes I wonder if it is not being powered by a 2-stroke engine.

I have a similar friend who is also always cash strapped but somehow always finds money for cigarettes, beer, cable, internet and 2 phones (cell and home). She has an unlimited talk plan on her phones that she really likes because she does not need to worry about minutes. Guess how much her phone bill is every month?.....
