And perhaps just as important - if the source can be believed - is that they are planning to release a hybrid CR-V in late 2006. This is interesting from two fronts - first is that we have another small SUV hybrid (one I might be willing to buy - one that likely will have good reliability). It also likely means that Honda is working on a 4 cylinder hybrid engine for the CR-V (which in non-hybrid form has the same 2.4L engine if I'm not mistaken that the Accord has). SO... we might be getting an Accord Hybrid 4 cyl! How's that for Speculation Thursday....

:-)

If the Fit's powerplant is more cutting edge, some Insight drivers will probably get a Fit just to put the engine in their Insight.

For about four years there has been rumors of a hybrid CR-V - at last!

As much as I *love* my 2003 HCH, when my car payments are up in 2008, I will be *very* happy to trade it in for a 2008 HFH. What's not to like? It's small, sporty, fast, and cheap!

Car & Driver totally loved the current-tech Fit, giving it a score of 228 out of 250. It went from 0 to 60 in 8.2 seconds!

If the gasoline version gets 35 miles per hour, then the hybrid version will probably get 53 MPH if it gets the same FE improvement as the HCH. Of course, a hypermiler could probably squeeze upper 70s out of a HFH.

.

Hope is like a candle held against the night.

OOOOOHHHH man... I think I've found the replacement for my insight.

Let's hope they don't bungle it some how. Thankfully Honda is pretty good about that & only make blunders on the rare occasion (dropping the CRX for the del sol comes to mind).

I was looking at the fit as a replacement for my wife's car. Now maybe we'll look at something else & I'll get the HFH

I hope they would eventually have several versions of the Fit like they did with the CRX:
  • regular
  • pocket rocket (to compete with the Mini Cooper
  • hypermiler (then it's OK to drop the Insight)

C&D reviewed it and 6 others like it last month. The Fit topped them all. They commented that it was actually a fun ride - nimble, credible suspension. Even if the power isn't spactular, if it's good on the corners this will good news. Back seats too...:-)

Edmunds indicates that the hybrid Fit would be powered by the Civic drivetrain instead. There goes my manual transmission. And they say no hybrid CRV.
