Default Chrysler financial problems

What is the reason behind Chrysler's financial problems?

  1. Only hybrid is an announced, 2-mode and nothing is on the floor.
  2. No hybrid mini-van.
  3. Management sets the priorities and budgets.
  4. NOT UAW - after all, the jobs and factories can (and have been) sent overseas.
If they were made by Mexican slaves, they would still be unappealing.
If they were made by Chinese slaves, they would still be unappealing.
If they were made by starving Americans, they would still be unappealing.
  5. "Vehicle . . . reliability" subset of "Unappealing product".

For me at least, it is the lack of fuel efficient vehicles what really did them down.
By fuel efficient, it is of course hybrids, but also in a broader sense, a line of good, economical vehicles.
For instance, a 4-cilinder light duty pickup truck.

I chose all of the above - except "lack of appealing product".

Not my choice, but there are Jeep and Ram fans out there.

The other reason why the Asian companies do better than the Big Three is that in Asian culture, they don't operate under the concept that the company acts as the CEO's personal piggy bank. You just don't have situations Japan in which executives earn 10,000 times more than the line workers. In America, it is tolerated (for some reason beyond my understanding) for a CEO to make 1.2 billion per year while at the same time announcing tens of thousands of layoffs and/or offshoring.

If Chrysler (like Ford and GM) had put billions into R&D instead of bloated executive comp, they would not be in the situation they are in today.

This is why I became a Socialist! Unrestrained capitalisim funnels money to the top of the pyramid, where it remains... forever.

.

Hope is like a candle held against the night.

I just voted, and then noticed that my vote was identical to Delta's.
