Default Could BAS be made more robust?

I tend to think of BAS as "Basic AutoStop", since it provides intelligent stop-start, but not a lot of motive thrust. On the bright side, the system only costs about a grand.

The thing I'm wondering is this: what would happen to BAS if the end-user added more batteries to the pack? People seem to do that with the Prius, but never to the HCH.

If someone had a Vue or an Aura with extra batteries, could the system support more power outlets? Would the 5 HP motor be able to run longer, and thus improve FE or performance?

I was just wondering. I think that BAS is a decent start/stop system, but it would be great if it could be made more "hybridy".

.

Hope is like a candle held against the night.

BAS is supposed to be a low-cost, interim solution. The real hybridization will be the dual-mode rolling out next year. I'd call it very unlikely that they'll put much work into beefing BAS up. An OEM market is already starting up for large alternator motor/generators, to sell to builders who want to add autostop or a little extra oompf. Maybe look there for trends?

I don't know that anyone has their hands on a BAS vehicle yet, so nobody's been able to see how things are set up, and what work-arounds might be necessary to get the computer to call on the alternator/motor/generator longer or more often, or to recognize the increased energy storage capacity.

I have to admit I am still fairly new to this bulletin board. I am not following this thread very well. What vehicle line are we talking about? If it is a Honda, is the implication that Honda is preparing a full Hybrid soon? Sorry for being so ignorant. I have a FEH but I have a pretty keen interest in all any manufacturers products so thats why I am interested in this thread.

Since a BAS takes the place of both the alternator and starter it should be nearly a net cost saver with the only real extra cost being a few batteries.

It's actually a system that GM is releasing in two vehicles for model year 2007. BAS is a 48 volt system % hat does three things: Autostop,a couple of power outlets, and a small bit of electric motor thrust when accelerating. It's a weaker system than IMA and HSD but it is also a lot less expensive.
