The Next Automaker to Introduce a Hybrid is....

Notes: The GM Silverado Pickup is not considered a real hybrid because it's not hybrid-propelled. Not opposed to it being more fuel-efficent nor trying to bash GM - just looking at hybrid propelled vehicles...
This applies to personal commute vehicles - not commericial
Volvo has not introduced a hybrid of their own, but supplied hybrid components of the Ford Escape
Toyota, Honda, Ford have already introduced hybrid vehicles

The 2007 Saturn VUE BAS (does it really count?) is coming out in mid 2006, anyone heard a date for the Altima?

In previous discussions, BAS was dismissed as autostop. For the purposes of this poll, a hybrid vehicle will help propel - not merely shut down the engine at intersections.

I'm not sure who will be next, but several thoughts. Europeans are more interested in diesel than hybrids, so that might favor the Asian automakers.

Having mentioned less European hybrid interest, Volkswagen has made many fuel-efficient vehicles - would love for them to do a diesel hybrid. I'd have to search here at GreenHybrid, but an early member hailing from Sweden mentions some signifcant work on a Saab hybrid sedan that GM would be wise to take note. Then again, Volvo makes the hybrid components of the Ford Escape. BMW seems the least likely to do a hybrid next.

So as of this time - count me....confused and undecided.

Altima 2007 model, to go on sale this summer. Nissan's token entry into hybrids, using HSD.

If GM's BAS is hybrid propulsion, it's a valid poll selection.

You are correct on your understanding of BAS technology. Because the electric motor is basically the alternator on steroids, there is capability to assist the ICE in propelling the vehicle, but no intent to propel the vehicle without the ICE operating. Except for decel ICE cutoff, there is not a slow speed EV mode with this 36V (or 42V, depending on how you measure it) BAS system.
