Default Re: Camry vs Prius-driving in the wind

Comparing the Prius to the Camry as far as wind is concerned is really not even realistic. The Camry weighs in at 3760lbs curb weight and the Prius is over 1000lbs lighter. That alone will make a huge difference in handling cross-wind stability. It's not even a fair comparison to compare a Prius to a Camry.........in any aspect of handling or anything else, for that matter. They are(the Prius and the Camry)......not even remotely close to cars in the same category. I am very pleased with the way the Camry handles!!

According to Toyota.com...

My appologies ........I checked yesterday and did find that the Camry is only just over 700lbs heavier, as you pointed out. The point I was trying to make was that the Camry is quite a bit heavier and a much larger vehicle and therefore very hard to compare to the Prius. Obviously the 700+ lbs makes a substantial difference in how much wind will effect it.

Thanks for the info......!!

The Camry is wider than the Prius, and the passengers are seated lower in the sedan for a lower center of gravity, so the handling of cross-winds will be better in the Camry. I suspect that the Prius' second-generation's side surface area (Kammback hatch and all) accounts for some of its sensitivity.
