Can you help me choose?
My wife and I want to spend roughly $10,000.
I have the ability to buy any of these cars for $10,000 with taxes included
2000-2002 Honda Insight....75k miles on a 2002
2001 Toyota Prius (first year they were made) 80,000 miles
2003 Honda Civic Hybrid (first year) 40k miles....$14,000 to 15,000
2002 Honda Civic 60k miles
2001 VW Golf ( I would stay away from VW)
2004 Toyota Echo with 40-50k miles
2004 Scion xA (first year) with 40-50k miles approx. $11,500
2004 Scion xB (first year) with 40-50k miles approx. $12,500
2003 Toyota Corolla with 60k miles
2002 Toyota Celica with 70k miles...maybe need to go back to a 2001
Of course the hybrids are our first choice but i wonder if a hybrid with the miles listed above have hit 'old age' in terms of longevity.
One of our friends suggests that cars these days if there isn't any body damage from accidents, can easily handle up to 300,000 miles of longevity.
I know there are many factors deciding longevity of a car but given that we take care of it. the body is in "healthy" order. Would you recommend, for example, the Insight with 75k of mileage?
What a list of things I should be looking at in these cars that may go out first and need repair or replacing?
Thanks much. We're moving back to the States (been away for 11 years). So this will be our first car! Hoping to make a wise choice.
Thanks for any help you can provide.
