Re: Civic Hybrid vs. Civic Standard
I just took my Civic into the Honda Dealer in St. Charles (Chicago suburb) and noticed that the only thing thing they had on their entire lot were Accord's, Minivans, CR-V/Pilot's and their pickup. Not a single Civic (any type) or Fit.
Apparantly demand is through the roof, no matter what type of Civic. When I got my EX in December, only the Hybrid was hard to find....not any more apparantly. People must be going for more efficient vehicles...

Midwest,lower midwest for HCH-consider Accord-bargain-or Corolla
In CA the HCH is being jacked up.You can still buy them at and under MSRP at various dealers in OK,OH,ARK, etc.
Consider a Corolla. Carson Toyota has an LE auto with side side curtains for $15,500. It gets Civic mpg, and has a slightly higher driving position; it is easier to get in and out of also.
I would also consider an Accord. According to CR it is only 2mpg less-city-than a Civic, and it is more comfortable, more trip worthy.CR gets 38mpg -HY- with an auto 4 cyl Accord. It would be a great trip vehicle for 2-4 people. You can buy the VP Accord for $17500.(Same as a Civic in some places-safer also) Luck,Charlie
We have a poster here who averages 45+ mpg with an auto Accord(he isn't an average driver,of course).Luck,Charlie

Out the door, at three different places, I was looking at about $25k or so for one of them things, not much of a difference from the hybrid if you get MSRP, less the tax incentives of the hybrid, the standard civic is more expensive (with NAVI). But you'll get a sunroof built-in and a cooler color (Atomic Blue is an awesome color).
After I test drove it three people were pushing their way through each other with their salesman to get to the car first. One guy asked me if I'm going to buy it and I said "no, white isn't my color" and he said "great, I'll take it" and the care salesman said "there is a $2,000 market adjustment" and the guy said "only two thousand? that's a bargain". I laughed and looked at my salesman and said "he he, sucker." and my salesman said he can get one for me for MSRP and not charge the markup if I want but, I though about it, it would still be more expensive than the hybrid at MSRP less tax incentives.
What kind of world are we living in?
Thanks,
Shawn

I think you can get a regular EX for far less than MSRP....all you need is patience and not fall into the herd mentality that has plagued our housing markets for the past 5 years.

Great dealer.

That's the way to do it. When I got my GTI a while back (now sold) I drove to Monterey, CA to pick it up...got a wonderful weekend drive out of it and a few hundred above invoice FOR A NEW, IN DEMAND model.
Paying MSRP for any car is ludicrous. People need to exercise restraint and patience otherwise this is what we are going to see....dealers that screw people.

Re: Civic Hybrid vs. Civic Standard
I bought my 2004 HCH in Jan 2004 when there were 4 others on the lot to choose from. I paid about $18,500 which is substantially less than they originally wanted.
When I first went to the dealer the salesman quoted $22,000.
At the time I could have picked up a similarly loaded EX for about $17,500.
I went to 3 other dealerships in the area and had about the same offer.
I spent some time researching other dealerships that are not in my area and got a quote for a new 2004 HCH for $18,300 but it was two states away.
I took the quote into the 1st dealer cuz I didn't want to drive that far (But would have). After a short amount of haggling they gave a final deal of $18,500 but won't include the TV.
TV??? What TV? (Imagine a puzzled owl-eyed look)
"The free big screen TV included with all new purchases"
I said something about the "free" aspect of it and took their deal.
This is the first time I've aggressively pursued a new car this way and I learned a lesson from it.
Efficient drivers do it better.
1003 miles a tank personal record. 74MPG calculated. HCH1 CVT

That was the situation in my part of the world: the Honda dealer's lot was crammed with Accords, but only one conventional Civic. Hybrid Civics were nowhere to be seen, with a long wait.
I wound up with a Prius.

From the Honda web site:
"5-Speed Automatic Transmission (City/Highway) 28 / 39"
Both the Honda Civic and Prius hybrids out perform it and no amount of waiting solves this fundamental problem.

Re: Civic Hybrid vs. Civic Standard
humm, I got my HCH for $21100 from a car broker last week in LA county. he will find the car and color that you want with the best price. You should not need to pay anything over invoice.

FYI this thread is more than a year old. Inventories are up now so many people are paying invoice plus or minus some these days.
