See this is what I'm talking about. This is the kind of unsupported stuff that Toy folks try to push in the FEH/MMH forum. Reading just the news clips on GreenHybrid.com you would know that hybrid overall have been sluggish because of sliding gas prices. geeezzzz
BTW our primary cars since 1988 have been Subaru and Nissans. We bought the FEH after looking at new Sub's, Nissans and Hondas. The FEH was clearly for us, based on quality, reputation (CR's better than average reliability among others), design, engineering etc.
Of course the pickup we have for hauling firewood, rock, lumber etc. is a Ford, with over 200k miles on it. But everyone knows it's a POS, eh?

I drive approximately 3,600 miles per month (yes, per month), my one year old Highland Hybrid has 42,362 miles (02/20/06 to 02/20/07).
The comfort is great - no backpain, no cramps, just comfortable driving listening to Sirius Radio.
Just my 2 cents .... Don (Camarillo, CA)

Depends on the size of the air mattress. Considering the type of stuff I've already hauled in my FEH, including a full-size unassembled crib whose box fit the entire cargo footprint (with rear seats down) of my FEH, I'd say you could easily fit a small air mattress in there for 2 people to sleep. If you have any height to you, you'd probably want the rear lift gate open, but then I'd do that anyway to have airflow and a sense I was actually camping (I'm a tent camping gal, although not right now at 35 weeks pregnant...)
We saw two HiHy's yesterday (kinda rare to see any non-Prius hybrid in our daily wanderings, so it was notable to see two HiHy's) -- one when we were on the highway, and another on city streets as we were en route home. The HiHy, at least from the outside/vehicle footprint, really isn't that much larger than the FEH. I'm only talking visual perspective -- I'm sure there are real dimension differences inside and out, but visually the two together are surprisingly close in height and width, if not length.

Re: Highlander Hybrid vs Ford Escape
If your concerned about speed, room, and safety then the Highlander Hybrid is the best choice. If your not then the FEH is ok. I get 28 MPG in my Highlander Hybrid, and the 0-60 on it is 7.4 seconds vs. 10.8 seconds on the Ford Escape Hybrid. The FEH only has a 4 cyl while the Highlander has a 6 cyl. Gas MPG difference in the two are not major.

Re: Highlander Hybrid vs Ford Escape
They are different cars, indeed. The FEH is smaller, cheaper - but cheaper to maintain up too. And the Ford is just as dependable.
Now, why would you buy a bigger car if a smaller one completely satisfies your needs? Spend the money on something else, I say.
Interestingly enough I am 6'4" and and the driver seat offered me more legroom in the FEH... (Not to mention that the Highlander is borderline ugly...)

The Escape has plastic kitty cat toy ugly written all over it. Basicaly if you want a slower and smaller and an unsafe SUV that recived a tip-up rating making it prone to flipping because Ford is not smart enough to put or even offer Stability control on their Hybrid then buy the Ford Escape Hybrid. If you want a smooth looking, safe and very fast SUV hybrid that can seat 7 then get the highlander Hybrid.

I want a hybrid and need 4WD. Can anyone tell me how the two compare as far as seating comfort?
I'm about 100 miles from the nearest Highlander hybrid dealer and thought I would get some opinions before going that far.
With the nearest HiHy dealer a hundred miles from me, any concerns about service that I should consider before buying that far from home?
Thanks!

I have 5 -1 way trips to and from las vegas .we always drive straight thru and I must say the highlander is truley comfortable for these long trips-way nicer than taking our rav-4

Re: Highlander Hybrid vs Ford Escape
Yea... you need to read the entire reports... some funny things about the toyota results...
"Consumer groups have been sharply critical of the government's new testing because it has inflated grades for some vehicles. For example, the Toyota Tacoma tipped up on two wheels, yet still received three of five stars on the test. "The result defies common sense and it gives a misleading impression to the consumer," said R. David Pottle of the Consumers Union in a Wall Street Journal report."
btw... I never see ANY Highlander Hybrid pictures offroad... Oh yea, thats right, Toyota states that the Highlander Hybrid is NOT to be used offroad... too bad. btw, Ford put the Escape Hybrid thru the TRUCK durability testing.. not the car tests like other manufactures did.
I notice you did not discuss the Prius recalls...
