Re: Which would be your choice for a new car?
Speaking of Acura, Honda and Toyota. I was one of the first to buy an Acura (back in 1986). And to alleviate potential maintenance problems at repairs shop (first year for a new brand, new model), Honda kindly gave a complete repair manual with every Acura. I got to know my Acura so well thanks to the manual. And that kept the Acura running for at least 15 years (Before it got sold out family).
But since then, no one is making manuals easily (or cheaply) accessible to car owners. That is until I found the $10 a day Toyota manuals online, in which I downloaded the complete Prius manuals (and Toyota technician training manuals) in in 1 day. It helped me understand not only the Prius (and many Toyota products) better, but probably how everything works on a modern car.
I also have a 2006 Honda, and trying to pry any tech info out of Honda corporation, dealers, techs is impossible. So as much as I like and admire Honda engineering/reliability, I would be hesistant to buy another Honda, because I don't feel like I really know the car, and I like to keep my cars for a long time. The Honda is a lease, so I did not press hard. But I do not buy any cars unless I get somehow get the shop manuals with it.
I do not do all the repairs myself. But I want to be able to go to a repair shop, tell the tech exactly what to do, so I don't get jipped. I was just in a Toyota dealer yesterday and saw how they charged at least 5 people $500+ each for the "CHECK ENGINE" repair. I am sure Honda would do the same. The $10 I spent for Toyota manual saved me that money (I fixed my Previa with things I learned on Toyota's site).
Probably did not help you decide on a good Acura replacement, but hope my experience steer you away from future $500+ repair bills.
