I can see Toyota upping the price a little. Evidently that would cause them to offer the car as a next years model.

What I don't understand how can they make only 100, 2009 models. What year car will they be selling during 2008. I can see more 2009's for sale during the year. Maybe the 2010 would be coming out in early 2009.

Just my guess.

Very shrewd marketing!
The flip side of that is when you go to sell the car. One would assume a 2007 car is two years older than a 2009 car. In reality, it could be as little as 4 months older. That sucks for guys that bought their 2007 cars fairly recently since they will be competing against 2009 sales, though I guess is good for guys that will sell their 2009 cars in the future since it will appear a year newer than it really is.

Later!

But the bad news for someone buying a 2009 next month is that when the 2010 model comes out on a normal cycle, the '09 will appear to be a high mileage car.

That part about the 100 2009 models was just a joke

I just picked up a brochure on the new 2009 TCH here in Canada. One difference I note is the claim that the front-seat head-rests now are "whiplash reducing" although they don't look significantly different from the old ones. This was probably done to get a 5-star (i.e., better) rear crash-test rating. The standard equipment list has also changed a bit. Here in Canada, the moonroof is now standard, and navigation is available as the only factory option, together with leather. (Presumably the NAV has the energy-display screens that we didn't get before in Canada.) I suspect that these changes and the early release of the 2009s (or equivalently the short duration of the 2008s) are partly due to the intention of Toyota Canada to reduce their prices significantly — their cars had become rather overpriced in comparison with the US dollar prices as the US dollar fell internationally and the Canadian dollar consequently rose relative to the US dollar. Their price reductions were announced last week; the TCH got only a small price reduction, but some other models got a large one.
