My first fill up today! 600 miles and 15 gallons. I'm not sure how full the dealer had it, but the computer showed 42.5 and the math is 40.0. Either isn't too shabby, but the more fill ups, the more data points! Ya gotta love these cars.

Boy, I just filled my first tank and....well...I got 33.1 via the computer and 32.3 via my head. I went 487 miles and put in 15.109 gallons. I am a little bummed about that. I am having an extremely hard time keeping it from using the ICE and going to 20 or below mpg....it really kills me that I cannot seem to figure out how to drive this thing or how to accelerate fast than death without using the ICE. It takes 30 seconds or more to go from 0 - 30 and it is hard to get it to keep a speed or accelerate after that....I'll see how this tank goes.

Accelerating like death warmed over is not good for your mileage.

As contrary as it sounds, use the ICE to accelerate. I get my best mileage by normal acceleration to just past my target speed, then backing off the gas and gradually dropping to my desired speed. If you are in slow traffic or creeping between lights, gentle acceleration in EV mode makes sense.

Just remember it takes more energy to accelerate in EV mode and then run the ICE to recharge the battery than to just accelerate with the ICE.

There are a number of threads on getting better mileage here is a good one: link

I am about to lost my virginity for the third time (wait a minute, is that possible?).
I have tried two different gas companies, does anyone have any information on whether or not they get better mileage from any particular brand of gasoline in the TCH.
Thanks

I've noticed my better tanks are usually Shell or Texaco gas. I don't seem to do as well on Exxon the few times I've tried it. Union 76 is a toss up. Mileage seems better than Exxon though.

I avoid Arco for a few reasons. Mostly due to dramatic injector clogging on my F150 - extremely repeatable, just two tanks causes rough idle and stalling at lights. I've had it happen too many times. Any cost saved it lost by having the injectors cleaned. (FYI, my Hondas never had problems with Arco)

Keep in mind these are not scientific - just trends I've seen over the past 10 months of driving my TCH.

That's interesting as my last fill-up was Shell and I seem to be getting better mileage, but it will have to wait until I fill-up again and calculate to get the final result.

Fuel quality does make a BIG differance as I went South a couple of weeks ago and milage varied a lot form tank to tank on the same road surfaces and conditions.

When I took delivery of my vehicle last week the dealer recommended I use either Chevron or Shell (I live in Canada). He said they have proven in their own shop that engines taken apart were cleaner and in better shape that when filled up on other brands. I will do my own test once my car is broken in.
When I drove a diesel there was a very noticeable improvement when I used Shell over Esso(Exxon).

Yes, it is possible. After a certain amount of time in abstinence, you revirginate.

It is my understanding from a "Modern Marvels" show on history channel, that all of the gasoline from the various stations is the same gas, except for a few addatives (done when they fill the tanker truck). Supposedly, they share the distribution system kinda like the electric grid. It may be a different system in different parts of the country. And I realize this contradicts the real-life experiences with different brands of gas reported by users here.
