Default Armrest Console 7" Color DVD Player – dissolving leather adhesive?

Hey Everybody,

Anyone good with leather, leather adhesives and leather crafts? I said “crafts” – all comments about other activities were not solicited by me!!!

I purchased this unit and I think it is so cool. The 7 inch screen pops up and provides entertainment for your rear passengers. The kit also includes a remote control and two infrared (wireless) stereo headphones. Kids have fun and no noise!!! There is even a video input if they want to play a video game. When not in use, the unit twists 180 degrees, and then folds screen side down into its cut out in the console!!!

The unit is made specifically for the 2007 (and 2008) Camry and installation is fairly straight forward. The inserts line up with the original screws in the hinged cover of the console. After that, it is just a matter of splicing into the console accessory fuse line. I ordered the unit appropriate for my car interior and the plastic actually matched pretty well. The complete part looks like this and it is the top half of your armrest/hinged cover.

I tried driving around with it for a while, but I really miss the comfort of my padded leather armrest. I ended up removing the thing because my arm would go a little numb on long drives. The unit has sat at the back of my closet ever since.

Since the padded leather only needs to be on the nose of the console; I would like to remove the leather from my old armrest and glue it to the front nose of the DVD armrest. Any ideas?

Also if you give me a good way to dissolve the adhesive, you need to give me a good way to glue it back onto the new arm rest!!

Any advice is appreciated,
Randyman

Thanks - is this stuff thick or does it run? I can experiment on the underside of the back half of the armrest.

You can get it in a spray, it's not thick.
It's an amazing liquid, it desolves glues, paint, etc.
Probably causes cancer, but hey, what doesn't these days?
I'd buy a small bottle (<$3) and experiment. Go to a junk yard and find an old armrest and experiment.
