I have a 2008 Altima with the Bose Nav. The mic for outgoing calls is TERRIBLE. I ended up replacing the mic with another one and it made a HUGE difference. Finally, I can talk on the phone with road noise and be heard. It isn't hard to do if you are comfortable with minor electrical repairs.

Please post how you did it?

To replace the mic for the Bose system 2008 Altima...

1) Pull straight down on the windshield aspect of the ceiling center console. Do not use a screwdriver - only fingers are required. It will unsnap easily with the clips on the side of the console facing the rear.
2) Unplug the white mic assembly plug as pictured. Do not get confused that the colors of the wires do not match up as constructed between the male and female plug aspects as it comes from the factory. Why this is the case is confusing to me...
3) Disassemble the center console freeing the black mic assembly. All pieces will easily snap apart when you identify the construction.
4) Open the black mic assembly, unscrew the circuit board showing the mic and black and red wires as shown
5) Cut the black and red wires to the crapy mic and discard the mic. LEAVE ENOUGH WIRE TO EASILY SOLDER TO NEW PLUG.
6) Enlarge the hole of the mic to accomodate a female 2 wire mic plug (from Radio Shack or similar). Solder the red wire to the connection that connects to the end of the male mic plug when plugged in, solder the black to other connection. The wires are very small and the insulation is easiest burned off with a solder iron.
7) The circuit board will likely not fit back into the black box due to the bulk of the mic jack. Just put a piece of mounting tape between the jack and the circuit board and use black tape electrical tape to reform the black mic box housing as able. Affix the black box with the new mic jack to the inside of the car roof where it will not crowd the center console when replaced - mounting tape works great. Plug the white mic assembly plug back into the automobile wiring.
8) Plug a Kenwood bluetooth mic or similar into your new adapter. Test the unit. It should work if your wiring is fine. (The voice recognition for this legacy BOSE system really sucks. It is not really a mic issue) I just put the mic in the provided Kenwood foam cover and crammed it into the space where the other mic had been. The excess wiring may be covered with foam packing and shoved next to side near the new mic plug black box mic prepared and affixed to the roof.
9) Reassemble - and you are done. It still is not a Mercedes audio system or as good as a headphone but VASTLY improved and people can easily understand me.

GOOD LUCK!

Really - this should take no more than an hour to do. It took me longer as I had to figure things out a bit and am a bit slow...HA

I am unsure why there are incorrect hyperlinks like "center console" embedded in my instructions. They are incorrect and I did not place them intentionally. Ignore them. The photos are correct.
