Default Bluetooth, Use Phone Voice Commands

Hello-

I have a Moto Q9c. It paired nicely with the car, and talking on it works well. However, I either have not figured this out, or I am very disappointed with the fact that I can't seem to access my phone's voice commands.

I would much rather use the phone's voice system than the car's. It is far superior and it would mean I wouldn't have to transfer my address book to the car. I don't quite understand why the voice system on my phone works flawlessly with a little motorola ear piece, but not with a 30K car.

Please someone tell me I am missing something, and that I can access my phone's voice commands somehow????

Thanks-
jayw-

You can access the car's voice commands, but not your phone's voice commands.
Many (most? all?) Blue Tooth devices do not support voice commands. Wired headsets do, but not wireless ones.
The car can store up to 20 (not sure, I never counted) separate voice dials as well as 6 speed dials (buttons on radio in non-NAV, not sure about the NAV).
It works with varying degrees of success (many complaints here), but if you speak slowly and clearly and use words that don't sound similar (use "Car", "Cell", "Mobile", rather than three entries with the word "car") and try to vary the sound of the names (use "James" and "Timothy", rather than "Jim" and "Tim") you should have no problems.
I use it occassionally, when I speak the name exactly the way I entered it in the system, it works perfectly.
However, voice number dialing is a nightmare, don't bother!

As a work around, you can hold the phone to your mouth and enter the voice command to initiate the call and then the car's Bluetooth system should pick up the call. That is probably the easiest workaround (just don't let a police officer see you hold the phone!)

Did a Google search and found this
Quote:
Bluetooth Headset Support: Voice Command does not support using a Bluetooth headset to initiate a voice command but you can use a Bluetooth headset during the phone conversation.
Please see the New Owner's FAQ in my signature.

Every BT headset (ear peice) I have used has supported my current and past phone voice commands via the push of a button on the headset (pass through).

But, true, the car uses it's own voice recognition system, not the phones. We are sadly stuck with that system, unless you have the phone and press the phone's voice button.

It would be nice if we had the option to auto-pass through the phone's voice system when the off hook button was pressed. If you were to press the voice button, the car's voice system would be used.

FWIW, Palm Treo's BlueTooth set up doesn't support voice commands.

I find it a bit labour intensive, but I wouldn't call it a nightmare. The recognition itself works very well, as long as you don't try to say the numbers too slowly or try to separate them. Letting them run together as you would naturally say them works best.

I've noticed you don't even have to say "dial by name" and then say the name. You can just press the talk button and say the voice entry and then press the off-hook button and it starts dialing right away.

Thanks for the replies. I guess I'm stuck with this system. That is incredibly frustrating. I am sure it would be quite simple for Toyota to allow a pass through to the phone. Anyone have any inroads to the folks that program this stuff?

I have had very little success with the voice system in the Toyota. I have a "normal" Michigan accent. Very midwest. I have no problems with any other voice systems, but this one cannot understand me. "Pardon?" "Pardon?" etc. etc.

Just use your phone.
Press the voice activation button on the phone
Say the name into your phone
The car will handle the call.

I realize this would work, but it defeats the whole purpose. The system is no longer hands free at that point.

Yes it is, at least it is in my car. If I initiate a call from the handset, the car picks up the call.
Try it.
