Unhappy Bummed

Got a call from the dealer saying they got in a red THC with everything we wanted. Great! That is a week ahead of the one we were expecting from the plant.

Well we get there, look at the car, smell that wonderful new car smell and start all the paperwork. Then he mentions that this one has 450 miles on it. Hello! Not only that but they wont extend the warranty by the 450 miles.

We refuse the car. We'll wait the extra week for a really new one.

What would you have done??

Good choice. But I would have changed dealers if they were that unwilling to work with you for less than 500 miles.

With gas under $2 a gallon in many places (like here) the hybrid's are no longer commanding a premium price.

You did the right thing - but I would have switched dealers too.. If they wouldn't work with you on the price of a "used" car - how are they going to treat you when you have a service related issue?

.

It's your car so why settle for anything less. I would have said no thanks too...

I agree since gas prices are lower than usual and the tax credit is no longer available the hybrid's are no longer commanding a premium price.

Right move. I almost bought a "used" TCH with 3K miles on it (but it was Toyota CERTIFIED! the dealer says). But the dasterdly dealer was going to charge me almost full price for it (compared to a new TCH). He wouldn't budge - only one he had. I changed dealers.

The new dealer realy worked on getting the price to MY satisfaction. He was able to get the car with everything in a color I liked (I wanted the red or blue but it was year end and the dealing to move inventory was in swing). I'll most likley go back to the original dealer to get service done - and maybe to "na-na-na-na-na" him for losing the sale. I went by the first dealers lot 3 days after I got mine and the car was still on the lot.

It does sound very suspicious for them to present the car to you as brand new with that many miles on it.

I would have bought the car if I liked it. 450 miles isn't even broken in. It's what, about 2 tanks of gas?

Bottom line though, is that it's your car and if you were uncomfortable with the purchase then you made the right decision for you.

The tax credit is 1300 for the TCH through march sometime.

I think you did the right thing. I wouldn't accept anything that has greater than 50 clicks for the price I pay!

You must allow for up to 50 clicks for the roll on and roll off. That's about it. Do not settle for less.
