Camry hybrid discontinued?
According to Automobile Magazine, the Camry Hybrid will cease to exist after the current model cycle and all future toyota hybrids will bear the Prius nameplate. The new Prius will come in three sizes, introduced respectively in 2009, 2010, and 2011.

Re: Camry hybrid discontinued?
I thought Toyota plans to have its entire lineup of cars, trucks, and SUVs to have a Hybrid Synergy Drive option. Has this changed??!

Very interesting. I wouldn't have believed it if you didn't have an article to back it up. (Not to say that everything we read is true.)
Personally, I prefer the unique names over multiple Prius variations but Toyota never asked for my input.

Re: Camry hybrid discontinued?
A lot can change by the end of the "current model cycle" of the Camry...let's see, normal life cycle of the Camry is 5 years...07, 08, 09, 10, 11...so 2012 would be the logical "next generation"
Additionally, Toyota is bringing out the new Highlander Hybrid next Oct, as an 08. 5 years on that as well? The last generation Highlander went a whopping 7 model years, 01-07.
Hard to say what will be, but one thing is for sure, the fuel economy will be better! I can't wait! And I realy don't care what it is called, as long as it doesn't have the (expletive deleted) center speedometer of the current Prius!

Re: Camry hybrid discontinued?
The Hybrid Highlander is already out (2007). Do you mean they will redesign it?

Oh, and this plan by Toyota sounds stupid.

The Highlander looks like a RAV4 to me. Hopefully it will look better in person than it does in photos.

they'll stand out from the mainstream but won't be as controversial and odd-looking as the first- and second-generation Priuses.

I'm not sure what they are trying to say here. Yes, the Prius has different styling than other Toyota's, but so does the Sienna, Matrix, Yaris, etc. Is that their way of saying the styling will be hybrid unique but overall boring?
