Exclamation Don't pay too much!

I see reports of people paying much $ for the TCH. We just bought our 2007 TCH with every single option (except remote start and carpets) and paid $27,900. The MSRP was about $30,900. These cars are no longer in short supply. You can negotiate on them and get near invoice. Don't pay too much!!

Ditto.

I just purchased a fully loaded MSRP $31,450 for 28,100 before tax....They gave me $29,465 as a first offer and I haggled a little and got $28,500 and then down to $28,100 (found a rebate).

Wish I had read this board before buying mine a few weeks ago.

I checked often with carsdirect.com and their "target price" in my area was $1000 over sticker. Most of the lots here have only 1 or so available, but the waiting lists are short and only for people who want specific colors and options.

So when I got $1000 under sticker I thought I was getting a good deal. I guess I am living proof of what P.T. Barnum once said.

Also, my vehicle came with a bazillion factory installed options (yes, all on factory window sticker) including remote start, rear bumper applique, first aid kit, XM Satellite Radio package (which I don't use), body side molding, carpet mats, leather, navigation.

My point is that all of these options are high profit margin items. I should have gotten a much better deal. The package for the carpet mats, bumper applique, and first kit sticker price is $277. That probably costs them all of about $50 cost.

Oh well, live and learn.

Dealers have to take into account that the tax refund is not as much as it used to be. I paid sticker, but got XM and mats for free and I am getting a $2600 tax break too. All that is worth over $3000 and it was when I had to drive over an hour just to get the only one left here in this area.

I ordered mine back in late May (June 9 delivery) for MSRP. Not much choice back then. Oh well, I got the $2600 rebate and have enjoyed driving it for almost 8 months.

BTW, I also bought a plasma TV for $3700 last year. I knew they would go down in price, but I could get it's replacement for $2000 now.

Moral of the story. If you see me purchase something - wait 6 months to a year.

I just picked up a loaded car for $28480 (sticker price $30929) plus tax and license after waiting a few weeks to get the color I wanted. I got the same price without any negotiation from several dealers in San Francisco Bay Area and didn't haggle to get the price down further.
