Default Doors locking when leaving the car

I just got a question about the doors locking automatically after you leave the car. I think the dealership said that the doors will lock after the key is away from the car. but when i tried it out at home, the doors never lock. is there some way to set it up to do so or i just heard wrong? I have a 08 TCH.
Thanks

Doors don't lock automatically when you leave the car. They do lock automatically when you are driving and put it in gear, or (if adjusted by dealer) pass a certain speed, for example 10 miles per hour.
Doors lock if you press the key fob, press the outside door button (on handle) or the lock button on the arm rest.

They automatically unlock if you are within three feet (or so) of the car and touch the door handle.

Haroldo, please allow me to add a couple of things to your comment. That should be "touch one of the FRONT door handles". Also... If you press the unlock button on the remote, then NOT open a door, the doors will all lock after about 20-30 seconds.

I hear that someone says the doors don't lock automatically when you leave the car. Heck, mine does. Always has. For instance I can walk away from my car in the garage and leave my keys in the kitchen about 15 feet away, and the door locks. When I go back into the garage some time later without the keys, I can't get in. I have to go back inside and get my keys so that when I get close enough the car unlocks.

Same thing at work. I can leave my car unlocked and walk away. By the time I reach the office door, I can hear the lock activated on the doors.

The only time my car doesn't lock is when I leave my keys in the car. I'm glad the car doesn't lock then.

A coworker bought a 2008 THC in January and he can walk away from his car and it will auto lock.

I bought a 2009 in April and before picking up the THC I asked the dealer to auto unlock all the doors when I touch the drivers door handle. On the day of delivery the sales lady got confused on the change I wanted. Now when I walk away the auto lock feature does not work and the auto unlock feature I wanted doesn't work either.

I decided to leave the auto lock feature off so I can get items in and out of my car in the garage without having the key fob on me. And after reading the manual I reprogrammed the fob to auto open the doors.

So I wonder where we could find this info? When I picked up my TCH on wensday the dealer tried to program auto unlock of all doors with smart key (hand in driver door) and said it can't be done. Also asked about auto lock when walking away from car. also told that it can't be done. I think we need to get some clarification on this. Maybe someone who has a car that does it can get some printed info or instructions from their dealer on how to program these options. Any help would be great!

Setting up the system to unlock all doors when you place your hand by one of the front door handle with the FOB present: http://www.toyotaiguide.com/iGuide_Camry.htm

Select your car.

See KEYS AND DOORS, then SMART KEY / REMOTE KEYLESS ENTRY FUNCITON, then Program Door Unlocking. Or, see page 40ish of the manual.

UPDATE:

After some more research:

"Auto Lock Delay" is set to either 30 or 60 seconds and there is no way to turn it off. "This function regulates the interfval between unlocking and automatic relocking of doors." It works but we really want is to have the car lock automatically when it was previously unlocked -- which seems to be the problem above. Not lock automatically if it was previously locked and the doors were no opened.

(The following is the setting that do the same as the above reference iGuide when it comes to using the handle but with the FOB button.)
"Unlock / 2 oper" is set to ON and it can be set to off. "This function unlocks the driver's door when the UNLOCK switch is pressed once, and unlocks all doors when pressed twice within 3 seconds. If set to OFF, pressing UNLOCK once unlocks all door."

Confused...
So there is a 'relock' feature where it locks the door if you don't open it after pressing the unlock button...but in the six months since I've had my car it never automatically locked the doors after I got out.
Are some cars locking after getting out of the car?

And that is the feature that I believe does not exist. However, I wish it did. The RELOCK will only work if the doors were previously locked and none of the doors were opened.

Well...actually, not exactly... I just went to my garage, opened the driver's door, DID NOT GET IN THE CAR, closed the door, then hit the unlock button on my remote. About 50 seconds later the car locked. The doors will re-lock if no door is opened after the unlock button is touched.

I can't decide if I would like the doors to auto-lock after I exit the car or not. I think I would always wonder if it locked, and don't want to wait around to see. Also, don't want it locked in my garage ...if I need to get something out of the car, and don't have my FOB handy....NAW...I just decided, don't want it to auto-lock. I think Toyota figured this out pretty well.
