I had no luck at the dealer with the wind noise issue. They took it for a test drive and checked the door alignments and found everything to be "normal". Also, they checked and found no TSBs, so they wouldn't know what to do if they agreed with my observation of excessive wind noise.

I tried the dollar bill test and found the bill to come out easily at every area, except at the B-pillar and rear door.

I will try to get some numbers from Toyota on what sound levels are expected at various driving speeds. Then, I'll compare my numbers with theirs so it won't be so subjective.

That's disheartening, Misbe. I'm glad that I enjoy listening to music quite loudly. Thanks for keeping us posted.

Toyota seem to have gone to quite some trouble to reduce wind noise in their design of the TCH (and the other 2007 Camry models?). There are double rubber seals on the doors, etc. Have a look at the attached pages from the New Car Features Guide: BO-12to15.pdf and BO-16to17.pdf. I'd suspect misalignment of the doors as the cause of the noise. This ought to be easily correctible by the dealer.

I'm glad that Toyota went through all that trouble. Just wish I could benefit from it.

Does anyone have the specs for the door seals? Thickness, compression-load values, etc.

Does anyone have the specs for interior noise (dB) at various speeds?

Here is the reply from Toyota. They say to contact the dealer because they have specialized equipment to diagnose the problems. The equipment was the technician's ear during the test drive and the computer that couldn't find a TSB.

I think you are mis-emphasizing what Toyota is telling you.

In a not so subtle way, they are saying the techs should be able to help, but the CRM is your next step when the tech fails you. I suspect that most CRMs have better hearing than the techs! I would ask to speak to the CRM at your dealer, and in the most business-like manner you can muster, plainly tell them you feel your wind noise is too great and suspect a door adjustment to better fit the seals is needed. Show the CRM a copy of Toyota's reply.

If your dealer does not take care of you, try another Toyota dealer. It is a hassle, but the cost other than your time is Toyota's. Most dealers do want satisfied Toyota owners (and love to steel each other's customers and will sometimes use superior service to do so!).
