Default electric engine question

Hello,

I just recently found out about this forum through the camry newsgroups. Anyways, I trying to understand under what conditions the electric engine is supposed to come on.

Sometimes when I stopped for a light, the gas engine remains on the entire time. Other times, once I have stopped, the electric engine runs and then as soon as I move again, the gas engine will come on.

In another situation, I will be stopped for a short time with the electric engine on. All the sudden the gas engine comes on and runs and then shuts off again. The instrument panel display shows that the battery is anywhere from full charge to just one bar down from full charge.

Is this normal for the electric engine not to come on when stopped or for the gas engine to just all the sudden start up when I am stopped?

You might want to consider spending some time reading thru all the past postings on this forum. Things related to these questions have been discussed several times and with excellent information. However, the short answer is, many things affect whether the gas engine (ICE, Internal Combustion Engine) is running or not. Engine temp, Catalytic Converter temp, battery temp, battery charge, climate control settings, power demands, vehicle speed, etc.

.

Two climate control systems, one inside and the other at the tailpipe.
