Default Exposed bolts under TCH

While changing the oil and rotating the tires on my 2007 TCH yesterday I noticed a pair of unused bolts/studs coming out from the frame (I think it’s called the “Front side member” in the manual) on the driver’s side of the car below the rear door. Since I had not noticed them before, I thought something may have fallen off, but I checked two other TCH’s in the office garage, and they had them too.

Does anyone know what is intended to be attached here?

Larry,

Thanks so much for looking that up. I had done the google search, and that explains the purpose of the Front Side Member. The bolts I'm referring to are not playing a role in the engine mounting, which seems to be the main purpose of that chassis component.

The bolts hang down at about a 45 degree angle toward the ground. There are two of them about 3 inches apart.

Best Regards,

Robin

is your tch made in japan? if yes, they could be the tie-down bolts to secure the car while in transit.

"The TCH's from KY have no need for the strap-down hook (behind the pop out) since there is no boat ride from Japan. Therefore, I would also assume the KY cars also do not have the black strap-down loops hanging down from the underside of the car." from http://www.greenhybrid.com/discuss/f...o-navel-11878/

nyceshirtz - Thanks for the info. I always wondered what those loops in the back were for. I had seen them on some but not on others.

NyceShirtz, thanks for the idea, but my car is from Kentucky.

But, I think I figured it out, and this may be of interest to some of you. I checked under an LE Camry at the office garage today, and it was exactly the same as mine - two unused bolts hanging down.

Then I found an SE, and there is a bar that goes from those bolts to a point about 2-1/2 feet away toward the rear on the car frame. I foolishly did not think to look and see if there is a matching bar on the right side of the car. But I assume that it is a frame stiffener for the "sport edition" Camry.

Does that make sense?

The trademotion web site has exploded-view drawings of many parts of the car. If you can find it, you can find out exactly what it really is. Or, at least, the name of the thing.
