This included two tries at a wiring harness, and four of the five computers that have to talk to each other to "start" the car. It also included 35 days worth of rental car fee. This was all covered under the normal warranty, but my point is these cars are expensive to repair.

YMMV. I hope it does!

I don't have a car payment. I am alergic. ;-)

HOLY CRAP! All that just for the rear reading lights! WOW

My loan is $364.32 per month (6.59% APR, 48 months). I pay $512 -- thus paying it off sooner. The key is to put down a good chunk of change after saving. I also pay a ton in rent and student loans ....I saved for three years.

Yep. And the kicker is, I had a really bad feeling about it going in, and I am usually a _very_ optimistic person. But my kid loves to read, and that is a good thing.

I decided against the extended warranty as Toyota's are usually pretty reliable cars. Since my last two cars were a Toyota and a Lexus and I had almost no problems with them, it was a pretty easy decision for me.

I am actually considering getting the 5\75000 warranty as I put on over 20k a year. The 3yr\36k will easily be up before 3 yrs. I got a quote for about $540 This will give me coverage to about 4.2 yrs of the vehicle life.

FWIW, I know each car is different, but I was looking at my records for my other Toyota (96 Avalon hit 180,000 today).
Within the first 7 years and 85,000 miles, I spent approximately $700 total on items that a warranty might cover (starter and struts).
YMMV, but I don't think I would have gotten my money's worth on that car's warranty had I purchased it.

This, of course, must be true for most purchasers as they wouldn't sell the warranties if they were to lose money on them!

True...but it all depends...I have had two extended warranties, and both paid for themselves (one of them multiple times over).

Yes, they would not sell them if they made no money off them, but it's like any other insurance - people do not always use it even if they pay for it.

It's piece of mind. After saving several thousand on repairs, I will always get one, as the cost of repairs just keeps going up.
