Default HOW DOES YOUR CAMRY COMPARE ON THE HWY

I just took a carefully planed 2-way trip of 130 miles with cruise set at 65 ,from point to point.I t was windy (pushing me the first 65 mi and I got 44.2 mpg, Then on the reverse trip i got 37mpg or a tank average of 41.1. I just wounder if this is good ,bad , or average for our camrys. The trip had a few small towns with lights and a few 40,45, and 50 mpg limits. But mostly 65mph...JOE

You're doing good. Over 65 miles per hour and FE degrades.

It does degrade at higher speeds. We get about 41 mpg (indicated) on pure highway driving keeping it between 65 and 70, using cruise control most of the time.

4 Lane Roads: On a (semi) flat trip to Ohio I get 41 and my wife gets 38. On a hilly trip to Charlestion I get 41 to 42 and my wife gets 37 (more extreem differences). My son borrowed the car and took the Charleston trip and with 5 people in the car and driving at 75 (not practicing hybrid techniques) he got 32.5. Not bad as I'm sure the weight and 75 miles per hour driving had a lot to do with it. But that does show the differences in hypermiling and normal driving.

I'm guessing my wifes procedure is typical of what one could get with a cross between normal driving and still practicing good FE tips.

Lately with it cooling down I am getting 45 mpg on this current tank on local 40 to 55 miles per hour rural roads.

Has anybody produced or know if there is a fuel economy versus speed chart for the TCH. It would be interesting to see at what highway speed fuel efficiency starts to suffer significantly. The TCH should be better in this respect than most cars due to its low .27 drag coefficient.

I find it varies significantly, with the most important factor being running time. The car seems to get much better mileage after 30+ or maybe 60+ minutes of highway driving compared to 10, even though the engine is warmed up in either case (in 70-degree weather).

But a 400-mile drive from Phoenix to San Diego, largely flat but with some mountain-climbing, in hot weather, with the A/C on, going steady 90 miles per hour without cruise-control, returned a bit over 34 mpg manually calculated. On 80-miles per hour long trips, I seem to get 38 mpg or slightly more, but that's less precise.

I had my TCH for 3 weeks now.
The first week is sort of 'engine break-in' period so forget about the number.
2nd week, my wife had the TCH. She drove to work (city) about 20 km/day round trip (stop and go), no A/C, temperture around 13C. And it came up about 6.3L/100km (37.34MPG).
3rd week, I had it and 95% on HWY driving 110km/h with 140 km/day. Again no A/C and temperture around 10C. And it came up about 6.8L/100km (34.59MPG).

It is lot better than my previous GS300 (trade-in for TCH) or 05Sienna XLE AWD.

I got 35.8 mpg on a 400 mile trip from Greenville to Jacksonville, all highways except for 5 miles and speed of 70-75 m/hr. Similar figures on way back home.

I am in Toronto, I just had my TCH three weeks, same as Stanley! First tank I got 5.9l/100km(47MPG), second tank I got 5.6l/100km(50MPG). And I am still using my second tank.
The Funny thing is we drove my brand new TCH to Dorset to see maple leaf(Break in Period). That day highway is jam, we just drove around 50km/h on the highway, and got excellent performanc, 5.4l/100km . Probably we use electric engine a lot!
